I sprained my shoulder while playing basketball while trying to catch a pass. At that moment, my shoulder went backwards slightly but the pain was quite distinct. Ignored the problem and continued to play for a few games. I was stupid enough for not stretching much before the game as everyone else was ready to play. Since that incident, I still played once per week until the 4th week, the range of motion becomes limited and the pain doesn't ease much even though I didn't play aggressively.

4-5 weeks after that incident, I went to polyclinic and was prescribed painkillers and heat patch. Was told to just rest and continue per normal. Didn't work.

1-2 weeks later I saw a physiotherapist who suggested range of exercises and stretches to do. It was the first time I heard it was a mixture of rotator cuff and tendinitis. But he can't pinpoint exactly where.

Now for the last 3 weeks I have been doing acupuncture and tuina massage which helps significantly in the first 4-5 sessions but still the range of movement is limited. I am also suffering from a sudden sharp and very aching pain on my upper arm if i tried to catch something with my injured hand. I noticed it's not the item, but the range of sudden movement sideways seems to be the main problem. The pain takes a few seconds to go away and it does feel like I lost control of my arm until I can sense some "energy" seeping in to make it move.

Besides stretches, I am taking the following pills
1 x fish oil omega 3 (morning)
1 x multivitamin (morning)
2 x turmeric, ginger supplement (morning and night)

Anything else I need to do? Should I get a referral to see a specialist? Is surgery a more recommended option? From that day to now, it has been around 11-12 weeks.

Is that tie da, acupuncture or tuina? I have tried the latter 2 but not chiro/tie da yet. I am not sure if I should see a specialist instead which will most probably be a series of scans and if they are commercial minded, maybe push for surgery.

the orthopedic at Sian Chay does cupping, acupunture, bone setting and etc except tuina. tuina is more expensive and is performed by other TCM doctor.

Lee Meng Liang does neck and back bone setting. go to him if the Sian Chay doctor cant help you.

it seems to me that you are suffering from nerve impingement, which can't be treated by just tuina and acupuncture.

Your analysis is quite spot on! I read a bit about nerve impingement and that's exactly what I experienced besides the frozen shoulder issue. I can't lift my hand vertically upwards still, maybe off by 20-30 degrees or so. I am still doing acupuncture and tuina massage at the moment and will meet a better physiotherapist next week. The current one I am seeing gives me the green light to play basketball and other sports but I cant even shoot.

Do you feel my problem can be solved by chiro/tie dar like Lee Meng Liang? Sounds like a hidden gem.

Yes, this is what I initially thought but the problem became worse for me instead of better :(

Do you have locking/clicking/catching feeling?

The mechanism of injuries sounded like you may have injured your shoulder labrum.

Thanks for all your replies! For massaging, I just got a small massage ball to identify sore spots and let it stay there for a few seconds before i move on to the next point. I've been doing this for a few days.

Arm stretching sideways has improvement but the back stretch (with towel) only gives a slight improvement.

I don't have a locking/clicking/catching feeling. Just stiffness and sore if I raise my arm vertically and backwards.

During my tuina sessions, I can sense the TCM is trying to pull my arm to achieve the bone-cracking sound. A rough estimate is I am about 90% there so I hope that once this cracking sound is achieved, I should feel better. Is it correct to assume this?

If things still don't improve, I'll try TCM that eyz mentioned.
