I sprained my shoulder while playing basketball while trying to catch a pass. At that moment, my shoulder went backwards slightly but the pain was quite distinct. Ignored the problem and continued to play for a few games. I was stupid enough for not stretching much before the game as everyone else was ready to play. Since that incident, I still played once per week until the 4th week, the range of motion becomes limited and the pain doesn't ease much even though I didn't play aggressively.
4-5 weeks after that incident, I went to polyclinic and was prescribed painkillers and heat patch. Was told to just rest and continue per normal. Didn't work.
1-2 weeks later I saw a physiotherapist who suggested range of exercises and stretches to do. It was the first time I heard it was a mixture of rotator cuff and tendinitis. But he can't pinpoint exactly where.
Now for the last 3 weeks I have been doing acupuncture and tuina massage which helps significantly in the first 4-5 sessions but still the range of movement is limited. I am also suffering from a sudden sharp and very aching pain on my upper arm if i tried to catch something with my injured hand. I noticed it's not the item, but the range of sudden movement sideways seems to be the main problem. The pain takes a few seconds to go away and it does feel like I lost control of my arm until I can sense some "energy" seeping in to make it move.
Besides stretches, I am taking the following pills
1 x fish oil omega 3 (morning)
1 x multivitamin (morning)
2 x turmeric, ginger supplement (morning and night)
Anything else I need to do? Should I get a referral to see a specialist? Is surgery a more recommended option? From that day to now, it has been around 11-12 weeks.
