Hi, An Update.

For those ITE Nitec/Higher Nitec Graduates who wish or aspire to upgrade themselves with a diploma with work-learn hybrid system, be it after NS, or just graduated. Recently ITE has added a few more courses last month.

Link : https://www.ite.edu.sg/wps/wcm/conn...+Diploma+Course+Booklet+(Web).pdf?MOD=AJPERES

Currently, it has 22 WLTD Courses, previously with 13 Only, 9 added last month.

Newly added courses:

WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN AIRCRAFT ENGINE MAINTENANCE
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN AIRPORT OPERATIONS
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN ARBORICULTURE & HORTICULTURE
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN AUTOMATION ENGINEERING
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN CULINARY ARTS & MANAGEMENT
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN CYBER SECURITY & FORENSICS
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN IT SYSTEM INTEGRATION
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN MARITIME BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
WORK-STUDY DIPLOMA IN MEDIA COMMUNICATION & DIGITAL MARKETING

Entry Requirements with Relevant Courses :
Nitec with 2.0 GPA
Higher Nitec with no required GPA
Those without ITE certification or non ite Graduate, WPLN Level 5 ,relevant
work experience and strong employer endorsement.

Some of the Key FAQ I found :

Can WSDip graduates apply to progress to local universities?

WSDip graduates can apply to related full time or part-time degree programmes in the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Institute of Technology or Singapore University of Social Sciences, subject to the admission requirements of the university.

Can WSDip trainees still apply to polytechnics after completing the WSDip?

Since the WSDip is already a diploma, there is no need for another diploma from the polytechnics. However, some may wish to pursue Work-Study Post Diploma (Advanced / Specialist Diploma).

In the scenario where the intake period seems quite far off from the Operationally Ready Date (ORD), what can prospective WSDip students do in the meantime?

If waiting time for the next intake period is long, those who are interested can try to get jobs in areas related to the course, in order to better understand job expectations.

Will WSDip graduates get more pay and a higher job rank?

As diploma holders, WSDip graduates can generally get more pay and higher job ranks that poly diploma graduates enjoy. However, it is only fair that companies do so after seeking good work performance as well. With a diploma, graduates are likely to get career advancement and increased responsibilities in time to come.

What do employers look for at the selection interview for WSDip applicants?

Like most recruitment processes, it is important for WSDip applicants to show good work attitude and passion for the job. Being interested in the company and displaying willingness to add value will help the applicant as well. As this is a diploma-level programme, employers also expect knowledge and skills learnt from previous Nitec / Higher Nitec courses.

Can apply to related full time degree programmes? I need more info on this coz I can only find those part-time degree programmes.

Does this means the WSDiploma is equivalent to Poly Diploma? I'm confused.

1. SIT is one of them, allows WLTD students who graduated with the diploma to apply for full time courses provided they meet their requirements. For more information: https://www.singaporetech.edu.sg/other-local-diplomas

2. Yes, WLTD is considered as Polytechnic Diploma, graduates will aquire extra 2 years working experience ahead. one may also choose to upgrade to specialist diploma, etc. For more enquires, do enquire to ITE for more infomation.

I wonder if employers are willing to pay the ITE diploma grad and the polytechnic grad on the same pay scale?

Have a feeling employers will see the ITE "diploma" as inferior, if so then what's the point.

Then we need to Hear it out from the current intake students. Imo They will pay based on the performance and experience even tho with the same pay scale of S$1,800 for normal poly students that is without any experience. On the company for 2-3 training they will pay lower first like Nitec and Higher Nitec. The purpose is also for students to upgrade to a Qualification in future if the company wants them to do so.

It’s still under improvements process, we see about it.

For future students who wish to see the course brochure of ITE WSDip :

https://www.ite.edu.sg/docs/default...cs/work-study-diploma-course-booklet-2020.pdf
Additional Update (WSDip in Electrical Engineering) :

*The holder of the Work-Study Diploma in Electrical Engineering is eligible to apply for EMA Licensed Electrical Technician certification after fulfilling the requirements prescribed by the authority.*

And That is to say , As per EMA requirement to get a EMA Electrical Technician License as a LEW, One has to have a minimum Diploma in electrical engineering In recognized institutions (Except Private Schools), and have to clock no less than 2 years of practical experience in the electrical industry Including taking the test as necessary by the authority.

For information on the requirements :

My nephew is very bochap attitude. I don’t mind funding his poly but he seem like a deserter.

he now going sec4n in 2023. Originally expected to make it to sec5 o level. But his attitude very different.

so the realistic pathway is sec4n>pfp.

But I see the work study programme very interesting. The money and income can motivate him to do his chores accordingly and try to complete a certificate.

Can sec4n graduate enter any work study programme ?
