I have a WeChat Account. They required me to upload my passport details to get it verified. I have a China issued bank card and China phone number though. Able to transfer funds out of the account.

One of my WeChat wallet account is linked to Singapore phone number + Singapore passport + Chinese bank card opened with the same passport. Everything's working well so far, used it to pay for downloading games in Steam....
I thought in order to open a China bank account need a China phone number.

this one should be easy to get (assuming it is temporary residency permit)

if you stay in airbnb or something, before u go , tell them you need to do temp resident permit, they will say ok or not ok.

If ok, when you arrive, you and the agent(airbnb) will go to their 小区 admin area . They will provide you the prove of residency in that estate

After that, go and google where is the nearest place you can get this temp residency permit. Bring the form from the 小区 will do.

Please make sure you take their china photo and let them paste here and there in various forms.

Note :
when i open my bank account donkey years ago, i didn't have to do this.

Familiar with the procedure cause i wanted to get china driving license :s13: but failed cause Singapore driving license class 3 is only 1 driver and 7 passengers while internationally it is 1 driver and 8 passengers...

in the end, i upgraded to class 4 license but haven't go apply for one :s13:

Difficult to open an account. Tried in ABC, BOC, ICBC all got rejected by receptionist. Require visa, work permit, China mobile number, business registration document and etc....
Couple of years back much easier, they said iin 2018, law became stricter and most of the big banks will not entertain foreigners unless they are pr, work permit or owning business in China.
Can try other amer banks.

https://vulcanpost.com/680519/alipay-international-e-wallet/

AliPay is now available for overseas visitors to use in China

Very nice move.

https://www.scmp.com/business/artic...-e-wallet-giving-foreigners-access-electronic

Starting immediately, visitors can download Alipay for both iOS and Android devices and register for the international version of the app with their overseas mobile phone numbers.

Visitors can use their international debit or credit cards to load funds onto a prepaid card provided by Bank of Shanghai, it said. The minimum top-up for each card is 100 yuan, with the balance capped at 2,000 yuan. The card is valid for 90 days, after which the balance will be refunded.

Yes a valid China visa is needed based on the photo in the SCMP article.

However it is a bit tricky for Singapore Passport holders as we can enter China without visa for up to 15 days. Let's wait for more info to see if visa is required for Singapore passport holders.

No need visa. Just a photo of your passport page.

I've downloaded and topped up RMB100 - will try it when I'm next there in Dec.

Ok. I managed to find it.
At home screen of app, search TourPass.
Click on TourPass.
After keying particulars, you will have a “virtual” bank of shanghai pre-paid card that allows you to make payment via QR code and scan-to-pay.

Thanks xiaofan, for anchoring and positively contributing in the discussions on Chinese cashless payment solutions in this China forum.

That's good news, will try as going Guangzhou in Dec. Can I use this to pay for my taobao items here?
