I want to leave my hotel in gz south and keep my luggage somewhere before going to the baiyun airport at night because I don't want to backtrack to the hotel to collect and then go airport (around 2 hours total). Any suggestions?

I'm looking for some specialist items, like miniature figures (they exist, always see them on taobao originating from Guangzhou) are there any forums around that you all know of where I can ask?

Also for gz, usually from the city centre to airport are there bad traffic jams? I am catching. 9.30pm plane, not sure what time to plan to arrive. They said arrive at least 2 hours early but usually for other countries I arrive around 1.5 hours early since there's not much queue for airplane check in.

At that hour, it is better to take the MRT instead of buses or even taxis. I would get going at 6:30pm.

Visited Guangzhou last year for a short getaway. Found it a pleasant place, easy to get around using their MRT. In fact, we took MRT from airport to our hotel, and back.

This video shows you our transit from Guangzhou Baiyun to our hotel. We stayed at the China Hotel, a Marriott Hotel. Bought a 3 day pass from the MRT station at the airport.

Took Public Bus #24 to Baiyun Mountain. Plenty of locals.

Took the cable car up. It would get very crowded later, so go early.

Also took the metro to Shamian island.

ShangXiaJiuJie - their shopping street

Walked around Li Wan Plaza. Quite intimidating!

Bookmarked!!!

Great location!! You are just next to the wholesale center for clothes and watches. Many good quality fake street wear and Rolex round the corner.

Just some inputs as I've been there a couple of times. Was just there last week and just came back.

Hotel I Stayed

Canton Hotel

This hotel is right smack behind Beijing road. Great location except that its far from the trains. Old but decent enough. Food and convenience stalls can be found everywhere within Yuehwa road at the back and beijing road in front.

Beijing Road

Food, clothes, bags, souveniers, tidbits all can be found here. I find it more expensive than Shangxiajiu. But the food here is better. I loved the chou dou fu (from the mouth sign shop), pig leg trotters (any random shop is good). Avoid the skewers here. Microwaved and It sucks.

Shangxiajiu

Cheap ladies clothes can be found here. Especially in the building with mcd. Guy clothes are mainly china fashion.

Lookout for Nome and Mievic stores. Very miniso style but better stuff.

Baiyun Mountain

Tripadvisor say taking the golf bus have better view. I disagree. I think cable car has better views. It brings you to the front entrance too. No need to walk.

At the last bus stop on top, pay the additional $5rmb to walk further up to the peak. Alot of steps but its worth it. The view is damn good.

Go during weekdays will be less crowded.

Qingping Medicine Market

Good to have a look. Some flower teas and chinese herbs can be found here if you are into that stuff.

One Link International Plaza

There is a much cheaper place 1km down the road. Sells the same stuff. Its called Yide International Exquisite Toy and Electronic Square. Didnt see a single foreigner there.

Dim Dou Dak

Near Beijing Road

Good dimsum here. Portions are big and reasonably priced too.

I managed to use Alipay for some transactions and for the mrt.. But better to standby cash too as some merchants only have wechat.

Great if you want to act like a local. Lol

Visited GZ last week other than the usual fanfare we also visited the science center (apparently it is largest science center according to guiness record) which is huge and having lots of interesting exhibit. Good for those travelling with kids. Quite far from the city center almost an hour ride by taxi.

Took a luxury Tesla ride using DIDI from our hotel at Beijing road to airport for RMB 380 to experience riding in a Tesla which we don't get here.

We got 2 Tesla where one is a model S while the other is model X. The model X with its gull wing is quite special. For the luxury experience, the drivers are dressed up in shirt, tie and vest and even provide us with drinking water inside the car while classical music is being played on the stereo. When we request for a photo with the cars they even drove it into the airport carpark to let us have a good photo opportunity with our rides before dropping us off at the airport drop off area.

Really a luxurious experience and one of the trip's highlights.
