Best to RMA once even a single bad sector appear, as more will appear later.
it expiry liao...............
cannot rma
How long you use before bad sectors set in?
In my case, < 4 years sold away.
Bought the HDD from the bro who share the link.
it is a WD80EMAZ-00WJTA0
But now i had other issue
The DS416 is dead....
I RMA @ 22-04-2019 and dont even last a year.
My advice to you is to refresh both NAS and HDD every 3-4 years period.
Do not use/wait till problem pop up to take action as the reality of data loss and long rebuilt time risks.
Both NAS and HDD will go up lorry down the road.
Refresh mean buy new set?
...........
Yes, buy new and offload old ones at Carousell.
You can't consider a RMA set as brand new.
LOL i nv expect to dead so fast too... it not cheap

Do you run your synology 24/7 or on and off when you need it?
I use Seagate NAS for years so far no issues except one disk might develop some bad sectors after some time.
Yes, it is not cheap.
Keep cost low by using normal Toshiba 7200rpm HDD and sell old working ones to recover some money.
Not 24/7
I use it when I need it but recently I set schedule to Auto turn on and shutdown daily at night
Does it count as 24/7 also?
i use Synology DS416.
at first is 2 toshiba 4tb has bad sector
now got 1 red has problem also... sian
i get the 8tb first than repair..
i think the wd red one, just need to repair.. but 2 toshiba 4tb really got bad sector..
Where did you place your NAS at?
The Nas are designed for running 24/7, turning the devices on and off frequently will shorten the electronic lifespan. That said that's no excuses for your NAS to spoil so quickly.
Yours maybe had a defective power component? I had a LG monitor adapter which always blew everytime the power supply got cut (stupid yah, means cannot turn off the power). I change 2 of them before the new one proved to be okay.
PS I don't have good experience with WD reds, but I think HDD experiences are subjective also.
the adapter are ok le..
my red still ok , it Toshiba not ok
