Mi Box S has S905X CPU so it has higher performance than the S905W based X96 Mini.

S905X2 and S905X3 are the newer generation CPU from Amlogic and both are better than S912. I will recommend you to get Tanix original version of TX3 S905X3 based box, from Gearbest. Make sure you buy from Gearbest and not from local online shops like Lazada or Shopee which only sell OEM version.

Price is from Gearbest app. Do not buy the 2GB/16GB model as it has only 2.4GHz WiFi and has no Bluetooth.
4GB/32GB at S$59.62
4FB/64GB at S$62.33

S905X3 is the latest CPU from Amlogic targeting the medium end.

S922X is the latest CPU from Amlogic targeting the high end.

Yeah but from what I read, the rest of the CPUs are too hot like Allwinner and Rockchip, is that right?

How is the S905X2 compared to S905X? My previous Tanix with S905X2 is actually quite good, too bad it didn't last :(.

S905X2 is cooler than S905X, due to more advanced semiconductor technology.

S905X3 is similar to S905X2. Both are very good at thermal.

Sounds good, so no reason to get Allwinner or Rockchip right?

I will suggest to go with official Tanix TX3 S905X3 from Gearbest (box with Tanix logo). In this case. I assume you do not need Netflix HD and Chromecast function.

US$44 for 4GB/32GB
US$46 for 4GB/64GB

Quality should be more consistent than X96 Air from unknown vendors (can be from a few vendors).

US$47 for 4GB/64GB

That's true.

USD$35 is about SGD$48. It's quite close to local prices when there are discount coupons.

Preloaded boxes like this are in general not recommended. You never know the services will stop. So life time can be six months, one year, two years, depending on your luck. HW spec and quality tend to be pretty low as well so the box may not last long.

If you look at the spec, it is sub S$30 box with the lowest end CPU in the current market and only 1GB RAM. So you are paying more than S$240 for a service with unknown life span. That is too risky.

CPU RK3229 Processor quad core ARM Cortex-A7MP

FLASH 16GB eMMC

SDRAM 1GB DDR3

But if you really want to buy preloaded boxes, then buy Ubox or Evpad since these two have at least a bit of support from the vendor and the user community. EVPad 3S/3 is cheaper and have better spec than the above box.

All in all, if you see a no brand box with higher cost than S$100, be very careful. If the cost is higher than S$200, in general it is a do not buy item.

Anyone still using GeekBoxSG? Seems like their dead now or is it?

Not using it and the website seems to be down. However there is a kiosk in Jurong Point JP2 selling the Geekbox only and not other stuff. Business seems to be so so but they are there for sometimes already. There are two more kiosks selling preloaded boxes along with other accessories. The Remax shop also sells Redbean TV boxes.

In general do not buy these preloaded boxes sold in Shopping Centres.

But if you already bought the Geekbox you can still try to use it (even if the bundled iptv and VOD apps no longer work). Just learn to install other apps.

Xiaofan, come to think of it, why people cannot install EVpad or Unblock apps on their empty Android boxes (e.g. Tanix, Beelink, etc)?

Maybe can spoof or crack apk?

No point. They upgrade pretty often.

You can subscribe to Sunshine IPTV which is said to power the EVpad IPTV technology. But then the price is about S$80 per year -- better to buy EVpad 3S at around S$120 in that case.
