Hi all, need some recommendations here. Have not been following the hardware scene for a few years so any recommendations to kick off my research would be much appreciated.

I play games occasionally. Mostly those RPG type and not really those graphics intensive ones but would like to have a future-proof rig at the best performance/price sweet spot.

Processor - ?
Motherboard - ?
SSD - ?
GFX card - ?
Power supply - ?
RAM - can recycle my current Crucial 2 x 8Gb PC1600 DDR3?
Casing - recycle my current Fractal Design Define R4
HDD - recycle my current WD red 4Tb SATA 64mb cache

I'm not really constrained by budget but would not want to overpay. Just want the mid-range sweet spot rig.

Thanks in advance!

Yes I'm getting an SSD for OS drive. My current SSD is Samsung 250Gb 840 EVO which I don't think can recycle. Maybe use as a spare drive.

Best way to future proof is not to get a discrete GPU. Buy a CPU with integrated graphics. Then when you need a GPU, just buy one and slot it in. After all, it may be a year or two before you actually need a more powerful GPU.

In fact, looking at your rig, at most you just need another 8GB instead of a upgrade.

My current Powercolor R9 270 died so thinking of upgrading everything. The curreny rig already lasted me more than 5 years.

I will drop that NVMe and just get a Transcend 1TB NVMe for less than S$200. Then with that diff in saving and get a Coolermaster hyper 212 heatsink.

i usually sell my old rig to buy new rig.

by economic factor i will take into consideration of rig being sold in 5 years time.

this way even if initial investment on rig is higher the value and experience is better.

Get at Win10 key online and that will cut down at least $100. Win10 is lenient on key so it's worth a try. Since this is casual gaming rig, you may want to consider Zotac 1650 Super for $100 less.

If you want save money, can opt for Asrock B450M Pro 4 motherboard

The ram I feel is bo hua, but you want get local then not much option anyway. I do recommend to get at least 3200mhz cl16.

PSU for that price, you can easily get full modular 10 years warranty, check out evga g+ gold 650w, corsair rm 2019 650w (2019 is manufacture year, only that year onwards has 10 years warranty), seasonic focus+ or gx 650w

you don't need WD Red, that is meant for NAS purpose.... WD Blue is good enough for your usage.

Also, you can get genuine Win10 Pro key for like $6 from Shopee.
