Hello, I would like to ask the difference between this two courses
at SUSS for Bachelor in Biomedical Engineering and Diagnostic Radiography in SIT.

Are there any similarities and can someone who graduated in Biomedical Engineering degree after some experiences for 3 years working as a Engineer in medical field decided to change up to become a Allied Health practitioner in Diagnostic Radiography ?

In my mind, I'm just curious about this. :s11: :s11:

Thought you keen to become a physiotherapist? Thought you plan to retake your full time diploma?

Biomedical engineering is what you have studied in your poly? It is very different from a radiographer... answer to your question is No as you need the appropriate paper qualifications to become a radiographer.. but you can consider retraining to become one (either now or after a degree)....

Nope you can't. A degree in diagnostic radiography is a very specialised degree where you will learn how to take the best picture (x-ray, CT, PET) for diagnostic purposes. People may think it is easy, but it is far from it.

When an order comes, you need to know how to position your patient for the best picture outcomes. To do this, you need to know human anatomy in detailed. You also need to calculate the dosage required for the picture to be taken, too high a dosage can cause harm to the patient and too low will render your pictures useless. Although not practiced in Singapore, senior DRs may then need to produce a differential diagnosis based on that image. A biomedical engineering degree will not equip you with all that skills.

To be a registered DR, you need to apply your registration to the AHPC. There they listed down a list of qualifications that is recognised for registration.

Nah i just curious because in RP I learn medical imaging and I very familiar with the MRI, CT and ultrasound scan. So is somehow related. Still I'm retaking the diploma and waiting for the result. Going to be 29 years old when I graduate with merit.

No school will allow a student to retake the same diploma. For a 2nd diploma, you'll have to pay full fees, without the tuition grant.

You are so sure you will graduate with a merit of you retake the same diploma?

Hahahaha.... aerospace engineers learn about aerodynamics and they know the aircraft very well... so I guess they all can fly a plane too cos somehow both are related too, right?

Love the way you associate things....:D

Biomedical engineering only qualified to repair machines. Diagnostic Radiography need to study lots of medical stuff like anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, radiological anatomy etc. That is on top of radiation physics. So your biology and physics background must be good.

I'm a working adult. I already work in the field for 2 years as a fitness trainer. I'm planning to take dip in sport and exercise science in RP. This time I know what I'm looking for.

I'll say it one more time.

For your 2nd diploma, you are not entitled to the tuition grant. The tuition grant was 15,900/year in 2017. I hope you have approximately $20k per year to pay for your 2nd diploma.

Do not have to worry for him as he is a "working adult" or he can always learn the facts through the hard way... (or he is rich enough to pay full fee, not like many of us who depends on government subsidies)

But I do hope that he can show us his diploma with merit in a few years time...

Looking to Sell Diagnostic Radiography Textbook

Hi everyone,

Like any typical Asian kid, I entered the Diagnostic Radiography course thinking that the sciences were the only way to life but quickly realised that it wasn't the best option for me, so I switched to a humanities course in University instead. Best decision ever because I made it to Oxford!!

As previously advised, I bought the Merrill's Atlas of Radiographic Positioning and Procedures: Volume 1, 2, and 3 - 12th edition. FYI: this is literally the holy grail for radiography students.

Since I have no use for it anymore, I am looking to sell it.

If anyone is interested, please let me know :)

Biomedical engineering is the application of engineering principles to medicine or clinical purposes. It involves developing an equipment or machinery that will be of used for healthcare. So, this course also involves biology.

Diagnostic Radiography specializes on imaging of human anatomy for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment to different illnesses.

So, biomedical engineering is more on the developmental side while the diagnostic radiography is on the application side.

hi i grad from Bioengineering NTU in 2010. none of my peers and myself are in the bioengineering related job (ie none of us went on to develop medical machines). the closest that we can get is medical industry analyst, medical and medical machine sales guy. most of us move on to the industry like banking, IT, Chemical.

FYI thanks
