Need your help. I see this selling at $13-14. I also see much more expensive ones on those SLS price list.

I have a Asus Laptop about 4 years old and a Asus Router AC86. Not playing games. Can recommend me something and roughly what price I can get it ?

Thanks very much.

I don't understand something. My broadband is 500Mbps. So if I get a dongle that's AC600, that would be good enough ?

I understand that the router is shared and thus should have a better ACxxx number, but for the laptop, AC600 is good enough ?

AC600 = 433(for 5Ghz) + 150 (for 2.4Ghz)

In the real world, you only able to use 20% - 30% (depending on the wifi adapter chipset/driver)
So for 5Ghz, you may be able to get 100+ mbps
Assuming
1. you have line of sight
2. distance 5 - 8 meters
3. no obstacle in between.

So your broadband 500Mbps is grossly more than enough.

So do u know the intel wifi card model detail?

Nope. it's inside. I only know the driver Wireless-AC 7265. Is there a way to find out the hardware ?

Could tell me why I need to know the wifi card in the laptop before I get the USB one ?

Thanks.

Change the internal wireless card for better performance and aesthetic. It’s not expensive shipping one from Taobao anyway.

Go for AX200/ 201 or AC9560 will do.

Taobao link for either product is as follows:

Yah this is a cheaper option but

1. Need to know if the current onboard can be removed.
2. BIOS not lock (this happen on HP and some laptop)

I'm not upgrading. My computer card is "faulty". Sometimes can work but mostly no. So my option is to use USB.

I kind of suspect it's loose but I don't know how to open up and the warranty is over.

My internal Wifi card will sometimes disappear. Cannot find the device in the Network Adapter Option.

How do I know if this is due to software or the hardware ? Is there a way to confirm ?

Thanks very much for the help.

Run your laptop on Linux (boot from USB stick) for one week, If the problem persists, it could be a hardware problem
