TSMC buys a lot of semicon equipment, and many are actually specially made/modified according to their requirements. These equipment vendors are also bounded by NDA.

It is not like you can just buy off-the-shelf product and let some taiwanese use. It doesn't work this way. :s22:

I tried to procure a machine before and casually asked what configuration TSMC uses and the vendor refused to divulge anything.

The semiconductor companies are careful not to let prc get hold of any trade secrets on the equipment, software, process recipes and know-how because once prc gets that, they will be heavily subsidized by ccp and many non-prc companies will not be price competitive.
The majority of TSMC shareholders are in US and TSMC on Nasdaq , likely that playing a part.

TSMC bought equipment that they are now unable to use to make products for Huawei unless they want to get sanctioned.

It’s like you buy China made Geely car for phv in Singapore and China said that they will void your warranty if you fetch Indians.

How much time.and money you think CCP spent trying to reverse engineer ASML Stepper???

I hate to think.

in b4 the more you hurt tiongs the more advanced tiongs become.

lolol.
Think not that it has not been done before. Back then US was somewhat unfriendly toward CN also, banned alot of technologies to CN. But that didn't stopped CN from growing their technologies in many areas and advance their society as a whole.

US don't control everyone. Just as many were willing to support US, many others were willing to help the so called perceived US enemies also. As the saying goes, enemy of enemy is a friend. :s22:

Not sure is which aspect, but intellectual wise think they should be ahead bah. Look at how fast and far they have advanced in just a few decades, compare to others who took way much longer. Look at how they are ahead of many in certain areas.

Not taking sides. It easy to say they copy. But think its one thing to copy, and another to copy and do better. As the saying goes, those who can only copy from others at best is get the same result as those they copied from, never better. But to do better, it can only means they are really good, better than the others. Maybe they just need the opportunity or platform to get it started.

Thus think from certain perspectives see, for CN to push so far ahead of the others, despite what many so like to say they copy then they are good, think to certain extent its could be just jealousy or maybe bruised ego, that many have when see CN doing far too well than what many expect CN not to. :s22:

What tech are you comparing semiconductor to? Things like build car, plane, train, rocket, dams are no where close to semiconductor in terms of difficulty. Same goes for AI, machine learning, databases. All the information you need to learn how to do is readily online. For AI field, researchers around the world routinely publish GitHub repo with documentation along with their state-of-the-art research paper. Not too difficult for China to quickly adopt such technology. But semicon industry is a whole different level. Even in SG, before the university can teach their software, the student have to sign clearance form. The software itself got no documentation and the error code cannot be googled. I think it's naive to think China will quickly overcome the technology difference in several years.

Long ago, when US banned Tiong from participating in International Space Station, Tiong started to make its own, and the assembly is in progress.
And the existing ISS had to force to extend beyond its expiry date this year, else no other ISS liao.

Long ago, US deliberately screwed up GPS readings ofTiong's ship and missiles. Tiong started to make its own. Now they have completed Beidou.

Now US forcing AMSL and TSMC to boycott Tiong on semiconductor. You just wait and see.

You compared tech that US more or less gave up on pursuing for decades to cutting edge tech and claim that because China achieved the former, they can do the latter 😂

Yup. That's true. As a singaporean Chinese, i will be prouder if they don't resort to stealing tech from other countries. This will make many worldwide chinese difficult to work in mnc due to trust arising from economic espionage campaigns from prc. People like you will think its due to racism and sinophobia about rising china but fact is, many tech were stolen from the west.

ASML is the jewel of photolithography and one of the most crucial technology. Not surprising that prc is trying to steal this tech. China can buy ASML litho scanner, but they are not entitled to know how it is made.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-asml-china-spying/asml-says-it-suffered-intellectual-property-theft-rejects-chinese-label-idUSKCN1RN0DK

Now china is trying to buyild their commercial aircraft comac. Won't be surprised if they are stealing from airbus and boeing.

Tsmc has no worries to fill sales order, a long queue of customer awaits them as they have mastered top quality wafer manufacturing ∼ which these customer depend on to bring future advanced products to market.
