If u want to switch all 5 at once, u have to get system 3+2. System 5 cannot switch all at once. Not enough power to support all 5.
System 5 is for those place with space constraints for the compressor.

Thanks, Craig! The Daikin system 5 MKS90TVMG is 29K BTU (with maximum BTU up to 43K), does it mean I could assume it could power my units till a total of 43K BTU?

Yes, able to provide u maximum output of 43k btu.
Do note that u can’t run it at max all the time.. too stress for the compressor.

Just compare pricing from the bigger players. ie Gain City, Audio House, Courts, Best Denki, etc.

Mine was installed by GC 10.5 years ago. I am still using the same piping and wiring even though I changed from MHI to ME recently.

I know at least 3 of my neighbors who need to redo their piping and wiring again.

Hi.
When the air con ppl say 1/2” insulation, does it apply to all the pipes? I i just had my AC installed, and there are two gas pipes, and one water outlet pipe.
So should the 1/2”’insulation be for the water pipe and BOTH the gas pipes?

The science behind max and rated colling capacity is this.

Max cooling capacity is what supplier claim

Rated cooling capacity is the true operating cooling capacity. Why rated cooling rate is the true operating cooling capacity? It is because the outdoor unit can only provide 29k cooling capacity when it tried to cool room to 27 deg from an external temp of 35 deg. Basically rated cooling capacity is obtained by going thru a standard test.

The higher the outdoor temp, the lesser rated cooling capacity is provided by the outdoor unit. Similarly, the lower temp u want for your room, the lower the rated cooling capacity.

A lot of time 25 deg is very cold. Why did people set 25 deg and don't feel cold? It is because they misunderstood that the lower temp u want, the lesser cooling rate provided by outdoor unit. So if only 1 indoor unit is turn on. Usually no problem. If many indoor units are turned on and fighting for cooling capacity from the outdoor unit. Then, no matter what temp u set. It won't be cold.

That why, most of the time, people ask how many indoor units are turned on at one time. Then, set temp to 25 deg. Stagger the turn on of indoor units. Get 2 outdoor units. All these help to ensure the outdoor units have sufficient cooling capacity for the indoor units.

There is this Daikin System 5 (MKS90TVMG). I am looking at 18k/12k/9k/9k/9k

1) May I check if this is sufficient to support all 5 unit switched on at the same time? The DAIKIN MKS90TVMG is 29K BTU (with maximum BTU up to 43K), so does it mean i could assume the compressor can perform up to 43K instead of 29K?
2) Such System 5 is cheaper than a Sys 3 + Sys 2. Should i take System 5 instead since it's cheaper or Sys 3 + Sys 2 is a better option? :)

A simple way to calculate is divide the area by 5

For example. 9.95/5 = 2kW.which is about 7k btu

Living room + open kitchen = 37/5 = 8kW. which is 28k BTU. There many configuration for this but I recommend 18k x 2.

MBR. 15k/5 = 3kW.which is 12k BTU

Cheapest.
Find 2x outdoor unit with 21k rated cooling capacity each.
Pair 1 x 18k with each outdoor unit. Don't cooect both 18k to one outdoor unit

Best cooling experience
Find 2x outdoor unit with 25k rated cooling capacity each.
Outdoor unit 1: 18k + 12k
Outdoor unit 2: 18k + 9k +9k

Dear AC Specialist,

what BTU should I consider for my 4room flat with afternoon Sun :)

Living Room with Open Kitchen (O.K)37m2
Main Br 16.8m2
Bedroom 1 9.95m2
Bedroom 2 9.30m2

Went to TAI WAH and the auntie said we can consider Sys4, 9,9,12,18.
Walk down to Geylang Daikin showroom, the salesman ask us get Sys4, 9,9,12,20.
On my facebook sms one quotation a shop near Eunos having sure win lucky draw, prizes like vaccum cleaner, ceiling fan, etc..... whatsapp them my floorplan and recommend me go 9,9,12,24.

Got no preference for brands, just wanna see which BTU to go for for my Living room right now.

However we might go for Mitsubishi because of the easy wash.

LOVE to hear your views.

What is your ceiling height?

Simplest way of calculating is area divide by 5 give u the kilowatt. Multiply kilowatt by 3412 give u the btu.

Master bedroom 13 sqm = 2.6kW
Guest bedroom 12.5 sqm = 2.5kW
Baby bedroom 5 sqm = 1 kW
Living room + Corridor 27.8sqm = 5.56kW

Recommendation.
MBR = 12k BTU
Guest room = 9k btu
Baby room = 9k Btu
Lviing room = 18k btu / 21k btu

Cheapest method.
Get 1 x 25k rated cooling capacity capacity outdoor units

Best cooling method
Get 2 x 21k rated cooling capacity outdoor units
Outdoor unit 1: 18k + 9k (guest room)
Outdoor unit 2: 12k + 12k (additional for Lviing room) + 9k (baby room)

If no budget.
Go for 2x25k rated cooling vapacity
Outdoor unit 1: 18k + 9k
Outdoor unit 2: 18k + 12k + 9k

Am moving into a resale condo next year and all the existing Daikin's and piping will be replaced as we're going to renovate.

Master bedroom 13 sqm
Guest bedroom 12.5 sqm
Baby bedroom 5 sqm
Living room + Corridor 27.8sqm

Current installed units:
1 x RKS35GVMG & 1 x FTKS35DVM
2 X 3MKS71ESG to 1 x FTKS35DVM & 1 x FTKS50FVM

I know the Master bedroom has its own compressor (RKS35GVMG) while the each other bedroom has its own single compressor shared with one living room blower each (ie two system 2's).

a) Can you suggest replacement new models (Daikin & Mitsubitshi) for these please? Prefer wifi instead of old fashioned remote control.

Our ID suggested just two compressors with a system 2 and system 3 but as we use a/c frequently and we stay in the same condo already in a different unit with same setup, we found out why it's useful to have 'redundancy' by not sharing the same compressor.

b) Have you seen a/c companies able to give decent guesstimates based using the above stats? Or do you need to give more info?

c) which BTU calculators do you use? See varying results so cannot get a good guide.

TIA

Your quote is too expensive.

Have been quoted these from renovation ID:

Cannot find how new these products, are they latest or not?

DAIKIN SYSTEM 2 AIRCON MKS65QVMG- 1 x CTKS35QVM, 1 x CTKS50QVM
DAIKIN SYSTEM 3 AIRCON MKS65QVMG- 2 x CTKS35QVM, 1 x CTKS50QVM

Also price include installation, exclude GST.
$8343.40 - is this price ok?

This happens for starmex only. I felt they are rather not transparent in telling consumer what they really need to know. They prefer to highlight the max btu instead of rated btu.

I guess the only reason is consumer don't understand how an outdoor unit really works. So the more they explain, the more consumer will be confused.

Furthermore starmex seller tends to create this illusion that my system 3 or 4 is cheaper than daikin. Why I say an illusion is because their system 3 or 4 tends to be powered by a lower rated cooling capacity, compared to daikin, which is not comparing apple to apple.

It really depends on the room size though. For the small-ish BTO room, 6K BTU should be more than sufficient. One notable thing is that the rated capacity with 5-tick units for condensers can be quite far off from what the model name suggests.

Pairing 2x FN10 + 1x FN13 with the 3G28/33 would be severely underpowered if all 3 switched on at once.

FN07 = 6.8K BTU
FN10 = 9.5K BTU
FN13 = 11.9K BTU
FN18 = 17K BTU
3G28VA2 = 20.4K BTU
4G33VA2 = 22.5K BTU
4G38VA2 = 25.2K BTU
5G48VA2 = 31.3K BTU

Expected. Renovation ID quote is normally = aircon subcontractor quote + ID %markup.

1/2” insulation is only for copper pipes, 3/8” is for drainage or condensate pipes.

It is based on 5rm HDB flat (Approx. 135sqm). I'm intending to install 3 Aircon units mainly in 2 Bedrooms + MBR. I can't attached the floorplan here since I'm new to this forum.

Wondering is the pricing above is it ok? Is the above quoted BTU models sufficient? My usage wise (8-10hrs a day) is only using at night before bedtime. All 3 rms will switch on the aircon though usually will not be the same timing as there's interval in between the other.

I'm intending to change my current faulty old Mitsubishi Starmex (12yrs+ old) due to refrigerant leaking. Time to change unfortunately. I'm leaning towards getting Daikin for a change though Starmex is also a great close contender.

Looking forward in your advice!

Reno IDs are likely to say older model is colder, which sometimes is true.

It depends if you find the latest features of the model useful and your concern about replacement parts. Older model may be phased out.

Ok noted. Is it normal not to quote the newer models of this or other brands? May be getting rid of old stock i'm guessing?

Rated cooling capacity
MKS50TVMG - 16k
mxy-3g28va2 - 20k

In term of rated cooling capacity, mxy-3g28Va2 is better. That also explain why it is slightly more expensive.

Better rated cooling capacity, mean you can turn on 2 or 3 indoor units at the same time, you find it cooler. Cooler don't mean it is cold for all 3 units. You want all to be cold at the same time, go for the outdoor model that have 25k rated cooling capacity. Anytime of the day, you find all the rooms cold. Also, you can update the 9k in MBR to 12k.

For night use, 21k rated cooling capacity shall be good enough if all 3 indoor units to be turn on around the same time.

To compare fairly on performance, the daikin outdoor model should pick MKS65TVMG, which i think should be slightly more expensive.

Next, then compare the features, maintenance and what you want. See the price difference, is it something you can accept.
