mine also tour guide's recommendation. then whole tour group went to snatch up all the stock available... think we managed to clear out 2 of the shops selling it in domestic airport :s13:
limited to 3 boxes per customer at domestic airport also

i saw this at nishijo fish market in sapporo city.

bought 2 boxes for 840 yen each :) yet to try. too much food in bag.

thanks for the rokkatei recommendation. really really good. i love it.

i got

3X kitakaro baumkuchen
3X furano jam factory jams
2X le tao chocolates
lots of ika-meshi
3 small boxes of royce
3 small boxes shiroi koibitsu (which i dont really like)
1 box of rokkatei
2 box of hokkaido potato
2 500g packs of hotate isoyaki
3 boxes of lavender biscuits

nearly overloaded my luggage :s22: most of it is for relatives and family. im a student so just bought some postcards for my colleagues.

one of the better commercial chocolates you can get in Hokkaido (better than Royce) is from Le Tao. They use better grade cocoa beans and you can really relish the difference. Alternatively, visit the many specialist chocolatiers all around major cities of Japan, they are all excellent, much better stuff than you can find in SG. Don't settle for those things you find at the airport, etc, they are pumped full of preservatives and palm oil.

For biscuits (like shiroi koibito, which imo is overrated), Rokkatei and Kitakaro are by far the benchmark brands in Hokkaido, not including smaller companies that produce small batches of designer confectionary. Rokkatei's Marusei Butter is, to this day, the most delicious biscuit i've ever tasted. It's an explosion of delicate small-crumbed buttery shortbread, smooth and whispery white chocolate and tiny bombs of rum-soaked raisins. It's an art piece in your mouth. Each piece costs about $2 but it's so worth it! The sad thing is its shelf-life of merely 3 days...

i know domestic airport got. dunno where else

nishijo fish market also have !! 840 yen per box only. i bought together with brother dreamer.

nishijo fish market prices are "auto-discounted tax"

i.e they dont charge 5% consumption tax.

but i dont think its worth saving that 5%. might as well just buy at airport when u flying off. most stuff are sold there as well. not worth the hassle of lugging it all over the country.
