Hi Guys, this is my short review for my gaming notebook Aftershock X15. Feel free to give critiques.

Introduction
Got my Aftershock X15 for more than a week now, I ordered on 3rd July and collected it on 8th July. Build the specs with the shop owner and tested games which i intend to play. (Bf3, WoW, LoL) He recommended me alot of stuffs, felt that he is quite professional in this field. Got to know this shopowner from a World of Warcraft friend.

Always felt that notebooks are not really meant for playing high end graphics games, heat & fan noise is always an issue. But when i look at the products in his shop, it really changed my view. Even the 11" at his shop can play BF3 with no heat issue!

Since buying a notebook is not cheap. I believe having more choices to choose is better. I really recommend gamers to visit this shop to have a look. Importantly they allowed customization.

Pros:
Allow customization on the specs and shop owner actually allowed me to play test the games before purchasing the notebook. Testing the heat and noise to ensure there are no issues before i bring my notebook home.

Cons:
The battery life is lasted 4hrs max while using it for net surfing. It will die faster if it use to play game.
The Adaptor is quite big (150mm X 80mm X 40mm)
I felt the exterior design is plain, something can be done to make it looks better.

Damage: SGD 3102

I am not using the ssd as my boot drive. Using it to store my games only, but it is definitely a lot faster than my normal HDD (i don't get any stuttering when i load into games)

Will let u know if i decided to reformat and use it as boot drive.

I went down yesterday to have a look at the coms, Cool people, marcus knows his stuff, good advice and def value for money, my own personal comparison would be alienware mx17r4 say around 4200, same specs in a ORIGIN casing (looks good btw) , would cost maybe 3.2k? value for money off the charts.

:D

I am waiting for the 17" to arrive!!( as well as waiting for the cc installment plans to arrive haha)

Thank you for the kind words and the review. In response to koon82's question about MSATA SSD, you can expect performance closer to SATA2 SSDs with an MSATA card in the X15. The card can be either used as an OS drive, Storage drive or for intel smart response technology(to accelerate your mechanical drive by acting as a cache). In comparison to mechanical drives, the performance is still far superior for the MSATA SSD (220 mb/s ~)

I've got a chance to try out their aftershock's 11inch version the other day.
I have very realistic expectations from a laptop. Was initially looking for a compact portable laptop with some gaming capabilities.

Have to say i was pleasantly surprise, when the 11 inch load up Battle field 3 to run on High or Ultra setting, can't exactly recall the exact setting its either one. notice the heat seems to be less of an issue, compared to my antique Mac book pro. Seriously tempted to get their 11 inch version before guildwars 2 launches. :s13:

not really an expert on gadgets but is it really more value for money to buy custom built laptops compared to off the shelf brands? by the way do they have slimmer models or casings? the x15 i saw on youtube seem a bit bulky.

Hi pencilbbreaker, would just like to quickly respond to your two very good questions. If you were to compare custom notebooks with pre-configured systems spec for spec, you would find them to be very reasonable. As for the size of the X15, the unit itself is actually thinner and lighter than most notebooks with similar enthusiast graphics cards. (i.e. 670m, 675m, 680m and 7970m).

You can find the exact dimension and weight details on our website. Hope i have answered your queries!

i am no expert too. But did a rough comparison on pricing, definitely value for money. its the same with self-build desktop. I build my own pc, this is the first time i heard about custom laptop. Custom computers definitely has it pros & cons. you are likely to prolong your purchase with upgrades along the way. Cons is you are constantly tempted to spend more for upgrade along the way lol. if i recall the 15 inch, is not really any bulkier compare to standard laptops, but the power brick is kind off. 11 inch is definitely a more portable gaming option for me.

When will the SLI enabled Aftershock lappys be available ?

I was wondering when the 2 x 7970s or 2 x 680m laptops will be available?

Thanks!
