I know it's different because the poly students take such a bloody long time to do a history taking and refraction and slit lamp exam and ophthalmoscopic exam. who says optical shops with qualified optometrist don't do anterior, posterior eye checks? instead of taking 10 to 15 mins to do a anterior and posterior eye health check, the experienced optom can do it in less than 5 min (for normal eyes).Dude. When u go to the poly for eye check, its different from the eye check at optical shop. You will onl get your eye power at optical shops. At sp and np, you will have your also have your eye health checked which comprises of anterior, posterior check of the eye structures as well as advice you should you bbe found to have any eye diseases. You would be checked by the student first followed by their supervisor who are registered and licensed optometrists.
i believe people would pay $30 for an eye check if they know what kind of eye check that they are given. however, many are not willing to even pay $10 for a refraction, let alone $30 for a more comprehensive eye check. so what is the reason? it's because many opticians are doing free "eye checks" which could be just auto refraction and not charging a single cent for the service. so some people who view other optom/opticians who charges for consultation as ripping them off. optoms/opticians who value their own time will not do eye testing for free.Another reason why optical shops don't provide such service, is because singaporeans are too cheapskate. Tell me. Would you pay $30 for a eye check by an optometrist if you had eye problems or would u spend $80 and see an ophthalmologist instead. Would you pay $30(cheapest I heard from a shop that charges consultation)for a contact lens fitting evaluation/consultation on top of the price of contact lenses prescribed to you? I'm sure many wouldn't. From my past experience in optical shops, many people are skeptical about paying for such service because they think that we are just sales assistants.
In fact in western countries, eye checks with optometrists can cost up to $80 usd depending on type and duration of consult. Even contact lens fitting can cost up to $200usd for complicated cases. Think about it.
Singapore is nowhere near in terms of primary eye care.
Those getting your contact lenses from JB, can share the pricing and at which shopping centre and shop you people got it from?
I would advice you not to unless you have a valid prescription from a local optometrist. At least you got the prescription to protect you legally should anything happen to your eyes. And prescription I mean contact lens prescription and not glasses prescription.
True.
I do have my contact lens prescription and the eye health check thingy. SP one not say chiobus leh.
I usually tell people. Wan save money. Don't wear contact lenses. It's also up to u to go for aftercare visits to ensure nothing goes wrong if not you're not protected also.
are daily disposable contact lenses cheaper in JB or Bangkok?

Consultation>check degree>check corneal curvature/topography>check corneal health>fit lenses>check lens fit on eye through a bio microscope/slitlamp>reccommend type of lenses >you choose one of the reccommended>lenses prescribed to you>come back for aftercare (nextday to 1 week)
does anybody know where to get lenses with base curve of 9.4?
i got tested by my opto with BC of 9.4 but almost all stores only carry max. 9.0
to add salt to my wound, i got astig + myopia.
in the end i sucked it up with 5 pair of trial lenses of myopia only, with BC 9.0...
my astig 100deg+ so my vision will be compromised by 10%.
but based on the freq i wear contacts (once/twice a week), yearly isn't a good choice for me.
anybody with BC 9.4 or know where to get lenses of BC9.4, do tell me!
thanks
edit: i prefer daily lenses. and my trial pair fyi are daily lenses too.
