while trying to answer one of the thread, i found this online financial calculator which is quite informative!!

Amortization Calculator

This tool will allow you to calculate the breakdown between principal and interest in payments on your mortgage.

You have the option of making extra principal payments
every month or once per year.

might be different for different version of Excel

First launch Excel, you will be given a blank worksheet.

Under File, Click New, you be given option to choose blank worksheet or from existing workbook look at the top,
click on the template Tab

mostly likely there will a amortizing loan template.

If not can go here and download it.
