Infamous black metal legends Mayhem have just unveiled ‘Psywar’, a brand new song from the eagerly awaited follow up to 2007′s ‘Ordo Ad Chao’, and it’s every bit as spine tinglingly evil as you’d expect…
Yes, you read that right, it has indeed been 7 long years since Mayhem released that dark, haunting masterpiece, and black metal fans the world over and have been waiting with baited breath to see where they’d go next. The future of the band seemed a little uncertain after the departure of guitarist Blasphemer in 2008, who had been with the band since ’95 and was responsible for the lion’s share of songwriting duties on ‘Ordo Ad Chao’, but if ‘Psywar’ is anything to go by, it seems like new guitarist Teloch is a perfect fit for the band.
The single is the first glimpse of what we can expect from their as-yet-untitled new studio album, and it definitely bodes well. The eerie, experimental atmosphere of ‘Ordo Ad Chao’ is still present, but bolstered by a stern, icy backbone that’s reminiscent of the band’s ’97 EP ‘Wolf’s Lair Abyss’.
Anyway, we’re pretty sure most of you will have skipped straight past all of this in your fervent hunger for new Mayhem material, so without further ado, here’s ‘Psywar’…
