Movenpick? I didn't know. But that makes me more impartial isn't it? A blind taste .

But truly, I didn't enjoy the ice cream.

The roast section is indeed serving knuckle. Crispy skin, and extremely thick dry meat. Nothing moist in between. Nah~

LOL.OMG, ipad autocorrection changed veal to veil.

Pasta, you should really go for it. The squid ink plus special sauce.

Haha, thanks for the tips on the seat plan. But behind java+, it's more relax. Sofa seats.

Marriott serves movenpick ice cream leh - so bad meh? Or are you are another cremo fan? :s34:

Usually the roast section is roast pork loin - that one is better cos it's juicer than pork knuckle...

Think you meant veal tongue =:p

Overall, Marriott is still one of my favourites to go bah

Usually never try the noodles or pasta :o

Oh ya, don't sit behind the Java+ area - the waiters are usually found on the side facing the Chinese cooked food =:p

I did ask for the skin. But the meat is dry. Expecting it to be moist in the middle.

Anyway for the seafood, get which station to grill? And what extra can I ask them to top for me?

Will be going back this Sunday again. Will update if second trip shows any improvements

If i am not mistaken, they are serving the pork saddle ... it looks a bit like knuckle. For that, you need to ask for the portion at the top with the skin. Otherwise, they might cut you those large meaty slices, which can be a tad dry.

Loved their veal tongue. I must go again now tat its back! Their beef cheeks a bit inconsistent, but even at its worse, its still not bad. Once in a while though, i get those tat are charred n slightly crispy on the outside, while still juicy n tender on the inside. Now those are really sedap!

You can actually ask them to grill the chilled seafood. I normally get mine done with butter/garlic n chilli flakes. Oysters n salmon sashimi i also asked them to grill b4 :D

Yea, their pasta not bad ... but i din know that they have 'special sauce' Gonna try ask for it on my next trip.

For desserts, i also dun quite like. That disgusting pile of cream is aptly named the eton mess :s13: Only things i go for are the ones with macadamia nuts as well as the date pudding.

Their chick rice nice wor. It was never sweet ... unless you drizzle the thick black sauce over it. Also like their chilli.

Actually, not everyone like the ice cream - some complain that it was too soft :s13:

I am okay, I just take a small scoop anyway...hahah

Oh, then it's such a waste then cos the pork loin (saddle) is so much better...hahah

I usually ask for the beef ribs - more flavourful - if you want to get your hands dirty :D

I generally don't take carbs so it's okay, I will pass on the pasta :o

We were seated behind Java+ before and we didn't like it - service was so slow :(

Hence we always make it a point to seat over at the other side...hahah

Enjoy your makan this Sunday :D

Does the other side has sofa seats? I dont mind. More comfortable to sit on the sofa and enjoy. Hahaha!

Im actually looking to ask them to grill for me the lobsters and oysters. Would probably add more flavours to that.

Yes the ice cream soft. But just somehow didnt hit me well.

Will be back with more reviews on marriot again.

On Saturday,i went to square @ furama riverfront. Probably because of my chances with the edge (pan pac), and at $25, it raises the bar in terms of value and spread. Hence the $35 bucks dinner at square somehow has more to improve and catchup

I normally just ask for the skin n the fats. I will rather eat the cheeks/tongue/beef if carving for meat.

For the special pasta sauce, is it the black ink sauce you are referring to?

You can ask the counter opposite the carving stn to do the grilling. There is a hotplate there. Well, i just asked for basic stuff like olive oil, butter, garlic n chilli flakes. I dun think they can do chilli sauce or black pepper sauce etc. Let us know the outcome if you try? :s13:

Yes, there are also sofa seats at the other side.

Aiyoh, bro, the $25 edge promo is a once off promo. If you using it as a benchmark, then a lot of buffets will 'fail' to meet the bar ... even this marriott one =:p

Yup, got sofa seats but usually meant for bigger groups although we (2 of us) sat there a few times :D

I have not asked them to grill the seafood before - I think I enjoy eating it as it is - very "sweet" liao :s13:

Sometimes they got charsiew which is not too bad - the roast duck is also half decent

But their Chinese cooked food generally CMI - we almost never take anything from there :s13:

Think the only dessert I like is their cheese cake :o

who tried the crab buffet le?

If you are talking about the one at Park Royal at Beach Road, I tried it last year and I wasn't impressed. The crabs were decent but I have had better from some of the more famous tze char stalls which were renowned for their crab dishes. The rest of the lineup were decent as well but again, not outstanding.

It's an honour to have the moderator quote and reply my post. Thanks.

And for the special sauce, just tell the, "mix". They will know what is it

You are not the only one, I did not enjoy the ice cream too. Somehow they don't taste nice to me.

Anyway today I come across a cut called sweet bread. Anyone tried? A part of the cow. Wonder how does it taste?

Okay Sunday I try checking out the grill station. See what can they do for me.

The $25 edge is really soooo worth it! Love it for the value and the spread.

I normally just ask for the skin n the fats. I will rather eat the cheeks/tongue/beef if carving for meat.

No cheese cake last Sunday. I was looking high and low for it. Unless it's really the timing - I started my final scale of attack only at 2pm, 30mins to the closing.

No roast duck either. Where was it placed? I only saw chicken rice and the white chicken

Sure, will be asking this Sunday. :s12:

Anyway, Since we are in Part 6, I was thinking, why not just share a little bit more about my thoughts regarding the buffet landscape in Singapore.

There are many buffet lines here. From the TRULY value for money, to the TRULY value for quality.

I began my buffet experience with Sakura. I remembered that was when I was still in primary school. Mummy and Daddy use to bring me there for celebrations. Birthday, Xmas, and so on. There were oysters, fresh cuts sashimi and wonderful cooked food. To me, it was a luxury.

Then when I got in secondary school, I began food hunting with my fellow classmates. Seoul garden, marina south steamboat buffet, windsor hotel porridge buffet and so on. At the same time, we start becoming more picky. Instead of feeling satisfied with the mass dishes put out by the kitchen, we picked on the quality, the variety, and the taste. We nit picked every single dish we tasted, and decided whether to make our next reservation here or not.

Soon after we graduated, while in tertiary instituition (Poly/Jc/Uni), with our part time jobs, we soon were able to afford more quality buffets. SCDH, The Line, GreenHouse, Ellenborough and so on. Bear in mind, we didnt have credit card, so every single cents we paid counts. We became even more picky than ever. Picking out only the best among all we have tried. From the whole smoked salmon on the grilling machine (from the line) to the free-flow lobsters (at greenhouse), we got inspired more and more. Eye-opening.

Then soon the experience became saturated. Just like Apple stops "wowing" the world with their familiar design language. We started to slow down in our buffet trips. Instead of looking forward and thrill, we ended up managing our expectations, treating every tasty treats as a bonus.
