Has anyone had a situation where their concealed air con discharge in wall sweated to cause the parquet below the air con to warp and turn black? My aircon and concealed pipe is new but after a few months, parquet is warping. Thks

To sunshineflower,

This is likely due to condensation.
Need to hack the wall to find the source of the proper.
Might be due to improperly insulated pipes or bent pipes.

Thks for your response Terumo! I am very disappointed cos I just renovated my place a few months back! The discharge pipe runs vertically inside wall and under tiles to discharge at gully. Pl may I ask if this pipe ( assuming it's pvc) have to be insulated with the black foam? I now suspect another room may have same problem cos floor there is also warping!!

Hi Terumo,

Also, is the "bent pipe" referring to that part of pipe where vertical becomes horizontal? Is the pipe one whole piece or made up of two with a connector for the bend? what should proper way to install?

pl excuse the ignorance, but I want to make sure repairs works done the proper way..would appreciate your advice/comments.

To Sunshineflower,

Horizontal pipes best is to be insulated as water flows slowly for horizontal portion.
Vertical no need insulation as water will drop down fast due to gravity.

There is a connector for PVC pipes at the bending area.

To Ekardo,
There r 2 brands of Mit in the market.
Mit Electric & Mit Hvy Ind.
Mit Electric price generally is higher compared to the latter.

Terumo, thank you very much for your prompt response and comments! Much appreciated!

It's really quite stressful for owners when installation is not done properly the first time...have to hack the tiles on wall and floor in toilet for the entire length of pipe to identify and solve the problem !

Terumo, yes aircon contractor says he will make good if leak is due to aircon. But my concern is whether they will do a proper job and solve issue because I suspect another aircon is having same issue! So I am very worried it is a question of them doing the installation incorrectly and repeating the mistake elsewhere Really hope they fix it properly now.

Thanks again for your help.

I am trying to re-arrange a couple of air cons in my house because getting rid of very old ones. So will be shifting a 12k btu to a 18k btu slot in my dining room.

The aircon contractor told me not to re-use the pipes meant for 18k btu for a 12k btu. The piping seems to be working well. It will be seldom that this 12k btu will be used (at most 1-2 hours/week).

Is there a need to get a new set of piping? Anyone can kindly offer 2nd opinion?

To MightyPigeon,

12k using 18k pipes is ok.
But not 18k using 12k piping.
Can be oversized but not undersized.
This is assuming pipes in good condition.

Thanks for your advice.

How do I amateurly check for pipes to be in decent/good condition? Thankfully its external trunking so I can access it myself.

To MightyPigeon,

We cant tell whether its in good condition a not.
Best to get yr aircon contractor to check 1st before doing any works.
