Hi Terumo Guru,

I'm getting my new BTO 5-room flat soon and just wondering if this configuration is good?

From AJ Aircon (Anyone have experiences with them?)

Mitsubishi System 4 M/O MXY4A28 / 3 X GE10 / GE18 $3550 + free $200 Aircon Service Voucher

Installation Includes:
- Armaflex Class 1 with PSB Thermal Conductivity Tested
- Drainage pipe 16mm with 1/4" thickness insulation
- Trunking min 2mm thick
- Copper Pipe - Grade 23 with PSB Tested
- Cable - 3C70 for CU & 3C40 for Fan Coil (Made in Singapore)

Too technical with all the model numbers, not sure what's what.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

air con replacement - pls advise

hi Terumo guru and all gurus,

I'm going to replace my current aircon(daikin sys-4) in my hdb unit which is already almost 10 years and got faulty(keep on leaking, monthly have to top-up R22).

3 in the bedroom and 1 in the living room...since 3 regularly used an 1 seldom use, so thinking to change to sys-3 and left 1(liv room) as dummy unit.

I got deal from GC for panasonic aircon as below :

1. Sys-3 inverter CU3S27MKZ-3XCSS9PKZW 2 ticks at $2,999

2. Upgrade extended warranty to premium(peace of mind) - 4 years at $99

3. Upgrade Armflx to 1/2"(class1) + Cooper upg 23 to 22 at $180

4. Dismantle and retain bracket and current sys-3

5. Drainage pipe 16MM

Freebies :

1. Panasonic Microwave Oven, est arn $199

2. Eikou air Purifier, est arn $299

3. GC photo frame

4. 5(1+4) years warranty, 1 year with pana and 4 years with GC(service cost capped at $1800) est arn $399

so total pay arn $3,278 with 36 month installment

A. pls advise if this deal worth ? and what's need to be concerns during the aircon replacement ? since i never deal with GC and have less knowledge for this kind of aircon installment/replacement.

B. should i removed the display unit or just leave it there, consider if remove need to repain whole wall

C. Any idea best credit card to use for 36 month installment ?

D. will it troublesome if kids(1 toddler & 1 years baby) around during the installation ?

E. There's certain part of exisiting piping is under false ceiling(very short ones), is it a must to cut the false ceiling to take out existing piping and install new piping ?

F. Cooper upgrade from 23 to 22 and insulator armflx upgrade to 1/2", is it ncecessary for R410 ? some parts of the piping may run thru toilet/outdoor.

G. Peace of mind extended warranty for 4 years at $99, is it worth ? or normal ones which is capped at $1800 for 4 years more than enough ?

H. Entitle 50 Feet of piping per FCU, is it enough for 3 bedroom ? flat size arn 90 sm2.

Pls advise and appreciate any inputs

Thank's

Hi, will frequently turning off and on the main switch(on wall outlet) of the aircon eventually spoil the aircon?

If you really never plan to used again or go oversea 3 mths or longer, then just turn off for power saving energy.

Otherwise on & off also can be spoil PCB.

WAH so detailed.

How come you guys need G21 copper pipes?
Even G22 good enough already, unless the copper all exposed outside to direct sun.

If upgrade for better rubber foam to prevent water dripping an issue, yes I will do that.

air con replacement - pls advise

Thank's Terumo for your reply, appreciate it ! :)

check with u couple things again if u dun mind

1. what's need to be concerns during the aircon replacement ? since i never deal with GC and totally blur for this kind of things(installment/replacement).

2. abt the false ceiling again, There's certain part of existing piping is under false ceiling(very short distance ones), iz it a must to cut the false ceiling to take out existing trunking and install new trunking ? or can use existing trunking inside the false ceiling to put new piping and no need to cut it at all ? i worried would be messy if need to cut the false ceiling.

3. Cooper upgrade from 23 to 22 and insulator armflx upgrade to 1/2", u said "good to have", does it meant 23 good enough for R410 ? so can save cost rather than use 22.

4. Peace of mind extended warranty for 4 years at $99, i'm not yet read the t n c(dunno where to find also), the sales guy just said peace of mind only, did u or anyone ever had experience with this kind of things prev with GC ?

to kim sim,

i think this could be the reason why my existing daikin compressor spoiled because of frequently on n off which caused the PCB burned...but before i did frequent turn on n off, the aircon sometimes can turn on auto ones noe without anyone pressing the remote(like there's 'ghost') and can turn on during working day and caused pub cost rocket high if u're not at home, scary rite ? :)

anyway, it's arn 10 years already, time to change i think :)

Dear Terumo,

2 simple question. I am buying a new re-sale flat:

1) I am taking a EA and having 4 bedrooms built. Is it more economy or safe to buy 2 set of system2 or just 1 system4? Economy to me is in the long run, which one will be "energy saving"? For safety, in the event of 1 compressor breakdown, the other 2 room will still have AC. Which is better? system4 or 2x system2?

2) Since now I am doing a full reno of the new re-sale, which brand and model is the most reliable & energy saving? Cost is not much of issue.

Thanks in advance

Upgraded copper pipes thickness only in SG can found :)
In JB they used lower class than G23 but still last for 10 yrs without any gas leak issue...

But workmanship really important, just slighly over bend the pipe or FC steel wall plate fix improper can be general crack sound when the compressor turn off or gas cut off during in morning time.

Armflx if can just meantion for this brand of rubber foam.
Mine bought from AllBest also extended warranty.

R22 Gas couldn't not be mix with new R410A gas, so if possible just replace new copper pipes as well.

The existing copper can be reused, but make sure the installer help you to flash with new gas or purge all existing oil out.

My friend is Aircon installer he always do that.

I have control wire problem as determined by an aircon repair guy but he dont know at which point the wire broke. The issue is that the control wire is hidden in false ceiling. Is there an aircon repair specialist that can use a device/tool to detect the point of wire failure so that I do not have to tear down my whole bedroom false ceiling? I was hoping there could be some no contact equipment that could detect current/voltage variation.

To sak2376,

Ur Daikin compressor should be the inverter type.
The auto on/off is most likely caused by an outdoor pcb.

1. Concerns, too many to mention... :)
2. Best is cut the ceiling, replace the piping & patch back.
3. Good to have, means not necessary but if budget permits, why not?
4. No comments...

To gentoro,
1. Both options are ok.
I think for cost wise sys 4 is cheaper then 2 sets of sys 2.
2. Mit Electric or Daikin.

To Trystern,

I think they can cut a small portion to replace the wiring & patch & paint back afterwards.

Thanks Terumo. My prob is they dont know where the wire broke. So they dont know which small portion to cut open. That is why I am seeking all the bros advices here if aircon specialist can detect which part of the wire is the problem without having to open up the whole false ceiling.

Guru Terumo,

Yeah it's a bit too good to be true but it's a group buy with my BTO estate with a min of 10 sets.

That's why want to seek for your advice on this! But most likely it's full cash payment :(
