Hi,

I have a suggestion for MyRepublic regarding IP address. It's known that we couldn't host something on private dynamic WAN IP and only on static IP.

Solution? How about a public dynamic WAN IP like starhub/some other ISP?
I don't mind the WAN IP being dynamic as long as we can port forward and host something, even temporarily until we disconnect from the ISP or a restarting of modem/router occurred.

Can this be done and why not?

Regards,
Thanks. :)

If I am not wrong, I think is due to the limitation of the number of Public IPv4 addresses available.

Hi

My connection is 200mbps so the tips for 1GB connection did not seem to apply to me, although I am compliant with most of them…gigabit ethernet ports etc which I do have.

But I did restore router to factory settings and set up fresh….the readings have improved slightly…

On my oldest laptop (6 years old) using N wifi on 5ghZ band I got the following:

DL: 57.17
UL: 100.23
Latency: 18ms
Jitter: 0 ms

The newer laptop gave the following on the N wifi and 5ghZ band:

DL: 100.33
UL: 105.38
Latency: 16ms
Jitter: 1 ms

Readings were derived by using MyRepublic Speed Test

Is this considered decent for a 200mbps plan? Doesn't seem too far away from my previous MR 100Mbps plan to be honest.

Also, I am hooked up with Cat5e cable from ONT to Router…will switching out to Cat 6 cable bring improvements? My research suggests that on a 200mbps connection, it won't.

To be frank, test with a direct connection from ONT to check if you are receiving close to 200 Mbps on your end.

No ISPs/RSPs can guarantee the Wi-Fi speed to be close to the subscribed speed. There are a lot of factors affecting the Wi-Fi speed such as distance between the router and devices, Wi-Fi channels around your house, etc.

so ... yet again.... tech come to my place....

this time bring a N56 for me to try.,... which I already got it months ago when I started using 1gb plan... and now I have a TP-LINK Archer C7 equivalent

anyway...

so temp solution(or troubleshooting) is to limit my speed on the loaned n56 router....

this test is like.... dont open your water tap full...

Hi,

How was your performance over the weekend? Was there any problems?

Also, you are using CAT5 cables. CAT5 signal degrades after 5 meters.

And your unit had 28 nearby WiFi signals from neighbors. Plus you might want to check the power consumption vs the ratings on your adapters.

IT show details will be out later this week :)

Thanks. Pity you guys are leaving it so late, we've just moved into our apartment and need to get set up ASAP so think we'll just go with starhub who can give us an appointment on Saturday.

@Johnny, can i check if i recontract to the MR 300mbps, is it using the old ONT which was by NC before the switch to a new one for 1gbps plan?

Will MR follow VQ and launch 2gbps plan?

highly unlikely, since you currently need specialised equipment to get 2Gbps up and running. I doubt any of the other ISPs will have any speed bumps beyond 1Gbps until 10G becomes mainstream via XGPON.

Our new network does not use NC anymore. NC is outdated and our new OpCo has better performance :)

Definitely can be done, but it's just a choice of how MR decided to do it's network instead, given that most people don't need to forward ports or run front-facing services from their home connections thus CGNAT made sense for them at a time when IPv4 address was more difficult to obtain in large quantities from APNIC.

If i recontract, MR will arrange for port 2 to be activated as im using the old ONT? After that, they will arrange for a date with me for them to come down and do a swap of old ONT to new ONT and activate the internet?

Also, my billing starts on the 3rd of each month. If the 1gbps is activated at mid of month, how will it be pro rated?

You have to request for Port 2 activation, otherwise MR will proceed with Fibre Takeover to re-use Port 1.

Note that if Port 2 is not activated previously, the lead time will depend on how fast NLT activate it.
