wat u mean "gear" ?
sorry bro, i dunno u bro or sis, so some suggestions maybe not fitting

backpacks? those 60L type?
anyway shoes u can try ur army boots, and bags try army market too LOL

jackets got a number of choices
or u can see timberland outlet (IMM) or any world of sport if u have member card
go SALOMON. the ION outlets i think are the best
the WOS there carries the brand "mountain hardwear" and there is a columbia sportswear outlet and a northface all in one.

novena square got "outdoor life" can try, some stuff might be cheaper or on sale

if u are the hardcore type u can go directly northface which is also hardcore on $$$
maybe u can get stuff on sale if u are like L and above.

goretex = $$$ is the usual.

i think u 1st consider the conditions.
in summer, maybe temp is bearable, but its all dependent on YOU!
you can take cold type or need alot of padding and protection type?
the terrain if rough, high ankle (think army boots type) will protect you from sprains
better then normal type

hope its worth ur 2 cents. :) cheers and enjoy your "walk"

thanks vof for your recommendations. very helpful.

apologies if i wasnt clear in my post.

i was basically looking for a shop that sells a wide range of hiking stuff at reasonable prices.

im looking for waterproof pants and basic hiking shoes primarily. Will be doing some hiking during winter/autumn in new zealand hence the need for some water prooking.

i've visited some of the outdoor shops in novena and i have to say they are very pricey. I dont hike very often so i dont really wana get really top line stuff.

haha u still have not tell me wat type of bag u looking for?

try army market bah... full leather 55, goretex 85 got some indian couple try to sell me,
i wrote the same thing in some other thread.
else timberland outlet. the goretex boots have $159 still.

its always the case, ppl go travel and hike one off always have this problem...
really no one to borrow from?

or u can go there and rent their stuff from the ski shops,
they rent jackets and stuff as well, but of course $$$ is the concern
and i dunno who and how.
yea novena is HIGH end stuff, national geographic store is the same.

i only roughly know the clothes part and the backpack part,
cause hiking is just walking mah HAHA... not sure abt the rest like wasking sticks and stuff

cheers:)

Local shops don't stock much stuff and if they do, pretty ex.. I usually get my stuff from basegear.com and deliver via vpost..

You can get almost everything kitted there, from your insulation to cookware and shelter..
basegear is fast, within 3 days of order, it will be @ vpost and if vpost is fast, out of USA to Singapore by 2 days.. basegear is located near vpostus address in oregon.. so typically within 1.5 week can get the stuff~

Timberland outlet at IMM has some decent hiking kicks. Got mine from there last year.
