From The shoe snob article

2. Wax polish works in the same way (as above). New wax polish will be very moist and because of that will simply swish around the top of the leather and not ‘set’ into the pores to thus dry and create a ‘flat’ surface so that you can build the layers. The older the wax (and thus the more ‘sticky’) the more easily the wax will stick to the leather and set into the pores. One trick is to leave a new tin in the freezer overnight which should harden it up a bit and make it stick better.

Sizing Guide

And to further add to the confusion, I just recently measured myself on the Brannock device and voila, I am a size 8.5US EE.

By the way, these are my sizings, if they are of any help to the folks in the forum:

Carmina Rain: 8.5UK
Carmina Inca: 8.5UK
AS 724 last : 8.5UK
Edetal : 43
Birkenstock(!) : 41

i size up by half for simpson on most occasions apart from loafers. Sometimes i feel i might get away taking my "true size" (Which is typically 8.5) for simpson suedes. But i repeatedly chicken out at the last minute.
Rain 8.5 fits me pretty good.
As a comparison,
Simpson 9
Rain 8.5
Inca 8.5
Uetam (loafer last almost exclusively) 8.5
Forest 8.5
Oscar - I'm not going to try again. Omg

I have a suspicion that the double monks are slightly too big for you.

no leh (assuming u referring to the crease)... me wearing UK size 6.5... i think is the my foot front too flat. my feet is pretty small :o

u can see from picture here... my finger cannot even slide in... the shoe fits almost just nice with a little room for the toe to wriggle.

You should be able to size down half with thinner socks but these look fine. As long as there's no heel slip.

wearing my meermin monk today.

notice the wear rate so far this morning looks good... not as fast as my Loake. :o

Give it some time and see how the leather creases.
It does look a bit strange now unlike how my meermin double monk turn out

Looks like the instep area is quite loose despite the straps already fastened to the innermost pinhole, so I suspect he might have a low instep.

Fit aside, the shoes look pretty good based on the photos.
Meermins seem like a 'draw of luck' brand and you could get a super bang-for-buck pair, u-get-what-u-pay-for pair or where-is-the-QC? pair.

I suspect they will prefer to remain that way than to improve their QC which would mean having to charge more and being benchmarked against against more formidable competition. From a very narrow and personal observation perspective, I think Meermin isn't really bothered about brand loyalty as their market is mainly guys venturing into their 1st pair of 'good' shoes, many of whom will move on and upgrade to higher tier brands. And I suspect that such a market is still very large, so long as they don't price themselves out of it.

Nice double monks from Meermin. I concur with Mr. Gag regarding sizing down half with thinner socks (summer weight OTC 100% cotton dress socks from Viccel perhaps?).

Oh, If the toe caps were slightly burnished and polished to a mirror shine state, that would be icing on the cake. But hey, to each his own. Enjoy your shoes!

Oh? Looks fastened all the way for the lower strap.. but yes, i realise the upper strap looks like it's loosely fastened.

Nice shoes! Hiro last i assume?

I think I might have similar feet as you. Low volume overall yet slightly wide. 7.5 for width, 6.5 for volume so I just take 7 and walk till they're comfortable. Guess I need to start saving up for some bespokes soon :s13:
