Hairppening - Who are We?

Hairppening - Who are We?
May 11, 2015 12:02

Founded in 2015, Hairppening is a start up with a vision to share the vast benefits of having great hair and ways to achieve it to the people of Singapore.

We at Hairppening have always been interested in hair styling and self grooming, and have started experimenting on different hair products and hairstyles ever since our polytechnic days. However, we were dismayed by how most good hair products are not available in Singapore, and can only be purchased online with draggingly long delivery time. On top of that, shipping charges can significantly add to the cost of the hair products; so it has become increasingly difficult for us to continue our experiments and enjoy styling hair with quality products.

We believe that hair is an asset that should be worn on our heads like a crown, because that's just what it is. A bad hair day can ruin even the best appearances, and can really damage someone's self esteem. Also, most people don't realise this, but the majority of first impressions are affected by our hair. The looks and condition of our hair tells a story about ourselves to the beholder.

With that in mind, the idea of Hairppening is conceived. We want all Singaporeans to enjoy having great hair without having to spend ridiculously large amounts of money, and damaging their hair and confidence from using low grade, poor quality hair products.

Thus, we aim to provide quality hair products at affordable prices with top-notch and unique customer service; because styling hair and looking good should never be a chore. We look forward to providing you the amazing experience of having great hair, and a pleasant journey towards achieving it.

Get your first product today from http://hairppening.sg/products!

Please feel free to contact us at contact@hairppening.sg if you have any questions, or if you have any feedback on how we should improve our service to you and your hair, because here in Hairppening, we care about hair.

7 Reasons Why Pre-Styling is Important

7 Reasons Why Pre-Styling is Important
May 24, 2015 22:15

BLOG_2_656a1018-d864-4792-9ac5-45fb1a1481bf.png

How many men you know actually pre-style their hair? Many say they don’t need it, while some say it’s just an extra step. That’s not what we believe in Hairppening.

Hairppening presents: 7 Reasons Why Pre-Styling is Important

1. It Sets Your Hair in the Right Places

Ever get annoyed with stray hair? Some parts of the hair just won’t go in the direction you want? Pre-styling it prevents that. A blow dryer gently pushes hair and sets it in the direction you are blowing, and will stay in place for the rest of the day (with the help of hair products, of course).

2. It Gives Your Hair a General Shape

Having a general shape to work in will reduce styling time dramatically. Hair waxes and clays help keep hair in position while adding texture and hold, but pre styling quickens and eases the process. Blow dry and form a natural shape for your hair and just let the product work its’ magic.

3. It Adds Volume to Your Hair

Let’s admit it- most guys in Singapore have flat hair. But never let that stop you from achieving the David Beckham hairstyle you want! Blowing your hair while combing it (we recommend the Hairppening All Round Styling brush) adds volume to your hair when shaped and curled accordingly.

4. It Prevents from Using Too Much Product

Sometimes, when the hair cannot be styled to your liking, you will be compelled to use more product when styling. This is not necessary. Most hair products only require a small amount to style even the most impressive hairstyles. Also, it is not economical when hair products are used excessively and can be very messy and difficult to wash off. We may be running an online store for hair waxes and clays for men, but we don't want you to waste it. Remember : less is more.

5. It’s Better for Your Hair

Having pre-styled hair makes it easier to style and enables the product to easily spread into the hair. This prevents your hair from getting damaged from too much pulling to get your hair to your desired style.

6. It’s Where Your Products Work Best

In order to fully enjoy the benefits of your hair products, your hair has to be in the optimal environment for the product to work in. Dry, soft hair from blow drying and combing helps the product to adhere more easily to the hair, resulting in effects that can last longer.

7. It Makes Reworking Quicker and Easier

With a good pre-styling routine, your hair becomes very manageable and will just fall naturally to the right places. Because of this, you can easily and quickly rework your hair if you change your mind.

With these benefits, your next question would be: What’s the perfect pre-styling routine to have?

Stay tuned to find out in hairppening.sg/blog

Hair Wax Review: By Vilain Gold Digger and Silver Fox

Hair Wax Review: By Vilain Gold Digger and Silver Fox

Perfect Hair Wax for Singapore?

Hairppening reviews and compares the By Vilain Gold Digger and the By Vilain Silver Fox hair wax in detail.

What do men look for in hair wax? This is a question we ask ourselves whenever we look for hair products to bring to Hairppening.sg. We are an online store that not only provides hair products, we provide quality ones.

So what makes the By Vilain Gold Digger and the By Vilain Silver Fox so good that we include them in our worthy waxes collection? The answer is simple : they are simply worthy of the name.

1. They provide extreme hold

The Gold Digger provides extreme hold and is very durable compared to other hair waxes available out there. We have tried applying the wax after pre-styling (check out 7 reasons why pre-styling is important) and our hair just stayed in place. Some products require rebuffing at certain parts of the day, but not this one. The formula used is somehow as strong as glue but as versatile as wax, enabling you to mould the wax and your hair to the hairstyle you want.
The Silver Fox provides extreme hold as well, but the effects of the Silver Fox is completely on the other side of the spectrum. One would assume that a wax with a shiny finish will result in soft, shiny hair; and the look and finish of it probably wouldn’t last long. That’s not true with the By Vilain Silver Fox. The unique silicone formula keeps your hair stiff while maintaining the soft look that so far, the team at Hairppening have never seen in other hair waxes.

2. Full benefits are obtained even in small amounts
Another thing we love about hair products in Hairppening is the affordability of it all. By Vilain’s Gold Digger and Silver Fox is heavily concentrated with its’ formula so just a little bit of product can go a long way. This is economical in a sense that you’re not using as much product and would not have to purchase as much product as you’re used to. So not only do you get to reduce the amount of product that goes into your hair, it’s cost efficient, too.

3. They are suitable for use in Singapore’s weather
The By Vilain Gold Digger has a really nice no-shine matte finish that helps make easily greasy looking hair stay fresh and dry, even though you’ve been out the whole day and your clothes were soaked in your sweat while it dries from the sun. The formula is also concentrated enough to prevent your sweat from washing off the product unintentionally.

On the other hand, the By Vilain Silver Fox has a shiny finish. Will it be affected with sweat and hot weather? Most products with a shiny finish looks good only during the first few hours (few is probably overstating it, even). However, the By Vilain Silver Fox has a very even finish and doesn’t look greasy at all, even after a prolonged time. Greasy hair is shiny, but it’s also sticky and only shiny in certain patches. The Silver Fox silicone formula keeps your hair separated and gives it an even shine, which is what we suspect makes it so different from other hair waxes.

4. It adds volume AND can tame wild hair? Sounds too good to be true.
The By Vilain Gold Digger and Silver Fox adds volume to men’s hair. Okay. Sounds like what every other wax in the world can offer. But does it add volume uncontrollably and absolutely? No. Which is why it’s so easy to control and can really tame wild hair.

The Gold Digger was designed to provide texture to what was once drab, boring, typical Singaporean hair. A wild and messy bunch is lifted up and shaped to a proper and eye catching hairstyle only commoners can envy. And the best part? You did it all by yourself, in the comfort of your own home, without the need of hairstylists and hours of waiting.

The Silver Fox, on the other hand, is made for slick hairstyles and to achieve a very groomed and polished look. How, then, does it tame wild hair? It’s simple. When you comb your hair and run your fingers through the strands, the wax just coats and goes through the top of your hair. When it dries, it forms a stiff, round cage that keeps the ugly on the inside, and the groomed on the outside.

With these qualities and more, is there really nothing wrong with both of these so-called worthy waxes? Have we now found the epitome of hair wax perfection and there’s no more room for improvement?

Sadly, no. There are still some drawbacks to these hair waxes, but we believe they’re minor compared to all the benefits we can reap from them.

The wax can dry up a little too quickly to our liking. The palms of our hands can get sticky and all weird-like before we finish styling our hair. However, just add a few drops of water and rub the wax between both hands and you can lengthen your styling time.

But then again, no wax is perfect (yet), right?

Stay tuned in Hairppening.sg for our next daily dose of hair care digest.

What’s next? Do you know what’s the difference between hair wax and hair clay?

The Hair Styling Guide Every Man Should Know

The Hair Styling Guide Every Man Should Know
May 27, 2015 13:13

guidetostyle_grande.png

After asking around our peers and snooping in Singapore’s forums and hair related discussion threads, we’ve noticed that most people do not really know how to properly use their hair products. What’s worse-- they’re doing it wrong.

Therefore, we’ve decided to present to you guys a very brief guideline to using your hair products and reasons behind doing so in our blog.

1.Try to apply hair wax or clay to clean hair.
When your hair is dirty and greasy, applying wax on it traps the dirt and makes your hair heavier and makes it lose volume. It also makes your hair more difficult to clean after that.

2. Never apply too much wax.
We get a lot of questions asking why the By Vilain Gold Digger is reviewed to have a matte finish when they usually end up having greasy hair. The problem is with applying too much wax. Sometimes, we can be too obsessed with getting the look we want, we tend to point all problems with not having enough wax. That’s almost never the problem. Just take a small amount with your finger and rub the wax between the palms of your hands before applying it. Too much hair wax adds additional weight to the hair and will reduce the defying gravity properties of the wax.

3. Try to pre-style your hair.
We cannot stress this enough. Blow drying your hair and just combing it in the right directions can make a huge difference to your styling time, the amount of product you will use, and the overall look of your hairstyle throughout the day.

4. Hair wax is for your hair, not for your scalp.
While shampooing and cleaning your hair requires product on the scalp, it’s a definite no-no when it comes to applying hair wax. Wax on the scalp is very difficult to wash off and can damage your scalp which can lead to hair loss or dandruff. Apply the wax with your fingers from the root towards the tip of the hair while pulling your hair upwards to prevent product from getting to your scalp.

5. Don't sleep with product in your hair.
It’s important to remove all hair product before bed because exposing the hair to these chemicals for too long can be damaging. Also, dirt sticks to the wax when you’re outdoors, and the bacteria can spread from your hair to your face from the pillows. This can lead to acne growth and affect your overall look.

And that’s it!

To close, here's a mantra that all Hairppeners should live by : Styling hair makes you look good, but keeping it healthy makes it last.

Stay tuned for more guidelines and hair do's and don'ts in Hairppening!

The Ultimate Guide to Using Hairppening’s All-Round Hair Styling Brush

The Ultimate Guide to Using Hairppening’s All-Round Hair Styling Brush

The 5-Step Guide to Using an All Round Styling Brush

So we keep stressing about pre-styling your hair by combing it while blow drying your hair, but sometimes, that’s just not good enough. It’s also important to comb it correctly to form the right shape and curls at the right places.

Step 1: Get hair slightly damp

Start with slightly wet or damp hair. After showering, gently pat dry (not vigorously rub with your towel) all the excess water on your hair. It should be wet, but not dripping. For those who skip the shower, wet your hands and just rub the water into the hair to dampen it.

Step 2: Outward curl at the front

Hold the comb with your better hand (e.g. if you’re right handed then we suggest holding the comb on your right hand) and the hairdryer with the other. Starting from the front part of the head, form an outward curl with your hair.

From the center of your head, move the comb towards the front and rotate the comb upwards to form an outward curl. With the comb still in the hair, blow hot air to the part of the hair attached to the comb. Repeat for two to three times or until you get a rough shape.

Note: Make sure you get a good grip of the hair for maximum impact. You should be able to feel some tension at the roots if you’re doing it right.

Step 3: Outward curl at the sides

Do outward curls at both sides of the hair as well, but use your right hand to curl your left side of the head and vice versa so that the hairdryer can do its’ job properly. Curl only up to the portion of hair about two fingers above your ears for a natural look. Outward curls add volume to the hair so these curls should make your hair puff right up.

Step 4: Outward and inward curls at the back

Split your hair at the back to the top part and the bottom part of the hair. For the top part, form an outward curl by moving the comb from the center to the back of the head, then curling it upwards.

For the bottom part, use the hairdryer and blow the hair from the top of the uncurled part and, holding the comb horizontally, gently sway the comb from side to side. This gives the hair a fluffy texture with not too much volume and tames down any weird shapes formed from sleeping.

Step 5: Set and style

With cold air, blow the front and the sides of the hair from the bottom to the top to freeze the shape.

And remember; form shapes with hot air, but use cold air to set it.

You are now ready to style your hair!

Which is better: By Vilain Gold Digger or Dynamite Clay?

The Ultimate Pre-Styling Routine
July 11, 2015 02:28

The_Ultimate_Pre-Styling_Routine_2048x2048.png

With a good pre-styling routine, your genes won’t stop you from looking good anymore. Fair warning : these 5 simple steps may just be the only steps you need for a completely new and amazing hair-changing experience.

1. Start off with wet hair
We usually start off with clean, freshly washed hair but if you’re not the type to shower or wash your hair in the morning, just dampen your hair with some water. The water helps get rid of unwanted bedheads and weird hair shapes (hair shapes?!?! You know what I mean).

2. Get your Sidekick ready
What exactly is a pre-styling spray anyway? The By Vilain Sidekick offers heat protection which prevents damage to your hair from the hot air in the blow dryer. Spray the Sidekick directly to your hair or spray it on your palms and spread it in. Make sure to coat your hair with the product to get maximum protection. The spray also increases pliability and hold so it becomes easier to style.

3. Blow dry your hair
Using a styling brush, blow dry your hair to the shape you want. Click here for more details on how to use a styling brush. Try to dry your hair all the way to the roots, and occasionally run your fingers through your hair to see if it’s still wet. It should be dry at the roots and the ends for easier styling.

4. Then add some Blow
The By Vilain Blow adds volume to your hair, and is really great for those with thin and fine hair because it helps your hair stay up. Some products can be a little heavy and your hair may droop down and get a little flatter after styling. The Blow prevents that as it is a really lightweight styling powder. Just spray the Blow (remember to shake before using!) to the roots of your hair, paying more attention to the center.

5. You’re ready to style!
With these simple steps, you can now style your hair to the hairstyle you want using your favourite hair products! Don’t know which products to use? Check out the difference between the Gold Digger, the Silver Fox and the Dynamite Clay here.

Pre-style your hair right and let nothing else go wrong. Stay tuned for more hair tips and tricks at hairppening.sg/blog

Which is better: By Vilain Gold Digger or Dynamite Clay?
August 10, 2015 20:09

gdvssfbannerv2_fd3b25df-a4e8-41bc-875d-45a943458c3b_1024x1024.png

“Quick question : What’s the difference between the By Vilain Gold Digger and the By Vilain Dynamite Clay? Which one should I get?”

Okay, here’s the gist of it— the Gold Digger has an extreme hold with a matte finish, and the Dynamite Clay has a strong hold with a dry matte finish. But that doesn’t answer your question, does it? So here I am, breaking it down for you so that you can make the best decision and get the best hair product for your hair type.

1. Which one has a stronger hold?
This is a no-brainer. The Gold Digger definitely has the stronger hold because it was designed to last. It can hold your hair in place for up to 12 hours while the Dynamite Clay can only provide hold for 8 to 10 hours, depending on your hairstyle and the conditions your hair is exposed to. So, if you’re looking for a really durable hairstyle, the Gold Digger is definitely for you.

2. Which one is better for a volume boost?
The Dynamite Clay can actually provide a volume boost to your hair because the formula is extremely lightweight, something that the Gold Digger can’t achieve because of the heavier formula (since it does provide a stronger ‘extreme’ hold). Your hair gets really fluffy and you can shake your head around and feel your hair waving around without actually getting messed up. Pretty cool, huh? I’ve used the Dynamite Clay myself and it really feels like I don’t have any product on at all, which is great.

3. Which is more pliable?
Both. They’re both equally pliable and adjustable throughout the day. When you’re outdoors, exposed to the wind, the sun, and everything in between, it’s important to have something pliable so that you can adjust accordingly if it ever goes out of shape.

4. Which is more suitable for me?
It all boils down to what you need, really. Although the Dynamite Clay is awesome, I personally prefer the Gold Digger because I prefer to have a quiff (also my hair is not long enough for a pomp). If you prefer pomps or comb backs with a little ‘kalipok’, then the Dynamite Clay is definitely the way to go. Basically, if you’d like a ‘larger’ hairstyle, the Dynamite Clay is more suitable because it boosts volume. If you prefer a more controlled look with a matte finish, I recommend the Gold Digger. (Hint : Most of our younger customers get the Dynamite Clay to achieve a careless ‘out of bed’ look, and it worked out great for them ;) ) Here are some video tutorials on the different hairstyles there are and how you can achieve it.

5. What’s the best?
Both. Seriously.

My routine is to add some Gold Digger before blow drying as a pre-styler and style after blow drying with the Dynamite Clay. Mixing both gives me the best of both worlds as I get more control and more volume without having to compromise on hold. Sometimes when I don’t have much time to style my hair, I just style with the Dynamite Clay and boost the hold by spraying some Sidekick after styling, and I get about the same results. (I use the Sidekick to replace my hairspray because hairsprays make my hair shiny while the Sidekick doesn’t).

So there you have it, 5 simple points to decide whether you should get the Gold Digger or the Dynamite Clay. Stay tuned for more hairstyling reviews, tips, and tricks at hairppening.sg/blog!

The By Vilain Sidekick - A detailed review
August 19, 2015 22:10

sidekickreviewb_1024x1024.png

I ask myself this question all the time. Does the product work as advertised, and, more importantly, does the product work for me in particular? I agree that some products may work better for others, but there are also some universal products out there that can be so versatile that it can be perfect for everybody and anybody. I’m still searching for that dream product, so… fingers crossed!

So here I am answering this question to those who are finding out—
Does the By Vilain Sidekick work? And will it work for me?

Hmm… Does the Sidekick work? Yes. It does. Advertised as a heat protectant, I believe the Sidekick has much more to offer, especially for a guy like me who is still hunting desperately for a miracle product that makes all my hair worries fade to grey. Here are the points that By Vilain advertises a Sidekick can do, and I’ll do my best to evaluate each of these features.

1. It’s a heat protectant.
It may take some time down the road to see if this heat protectant really protects your hair from the damaging heat of the blow dryer, or the flat iron. But I’ve been applying it before blow drying and notice that my hair isn’t as dry as before. My girlfriend uses it before blow drying her hair so it doesn’t get frizzy, and she feels that it helps to prevent further damage while her hair ‘recovers’ from her perm. So my guess is, it’s quite a good heat protectant.

2. It increases pliability.
Now, this part is true. Sometimes when I’m in a hurry and don’t have the time to wash my hair, I spray a few pumps of Sidekick and just very briefly blow dry with my brush. The bedhead is almost completely gone, and some stubborn strays that will usually require lots of product to tame is not visible anymore. It’s also easier to style after applying the Sidekick because it becomes really easy to control where my hair goes. I think the Sidekick will be perfect for those who prefer to skip the morning shower but have really stubborn and wild hair.

3. It increases hold.
I initially thought this feature was pretty much bs. Logically, something shouldn’t be able to increase pliability and hold. Apparently my logic was flawed. The Sidekick makes your hair pliable when your hair is damp, and when the Sidekick is still wet. When it dries, you can feel the Sidekick getting tackier, like diluted glue. This is why it increases hold. It pretty much ‘glues’ your hair together, making the hairstyle last longer. The only downside is, you may need to speed up on the styling. What I do to prolong my styling time is, I blow dry my hair until it’s slightly damp, and not completely dry, so it takes longer for the Sidekick to dry.

4. It can be used as a hairspray.
Nope. Not for heavy duty use, I mean. Sure, you can spray the Sidekick after styling to add a little bit of extra hold, but it’s not enough to completely replace your hairspray. Some add hairspray to retain the hairstyle and to make it more durable and for it to last throughout the day. Sorry to disappoint you guys, but the Sidekick just can’t make the cut as a hairspray. I recommend the Gold Digger if you really need a hairstyle that can last.

When I first read up on the product, I was really doubtful. It just doesn’t seem like a product that I need. But once I started using it, I feel like I can’t go without it. It’s funny, really, because all it does is increase a little hold and add a little more pliability, but these small perks can actually be very useful.

I guess that’s why it’s called the Sidekick.

Check out the By Vilain Sidekick!

By Vilain Gold Digger or Hanz de Fuko Claymation?

By Vilain Gold Digger or Hanz de Fuko Claymation?
Dec 05, 2016

clay_vs_gold_blog_1024x1024.png

With so many different hair products out there, it can get pretty confusing when it comes to deciding on which hair wax to get. Here’s a full comparison between the Hanz de Fuko Claymation and the By Vilain Gold Digger, and which one you should get.

1. STRENGTH AND HOLD

Both the Hanz de Fuko Claymation and By Vilain Gold Digger have ‘super high hold’ and ‘extreme hold’, but which is better? In terms of strength, I would say the Claymation is stronger. While the By Vilain Gold Digger boasts a hold strength of up to 12 hours, the HDF Claymation can last just as long in harsher conditions. However, the HDF Claymation is less pliable and harder to wash.

P.S. If you're looking to get the Gold Digger but need a little boost in hold, try it with some Sidekick. Click here to see how Sidekick helps.

2. HAIR TYPE

Different products resonate with different hair types. Since the HDF Claymation can boost volume, it works better if you have naturally neat and straight hair. Otherwise, the By Vilain Gold Digger may be better, because it gives more control and is more pliable. If you already have the volume, why not use the Gold Digger and get more control?

3. HAIRSTYLE AND FINISH

Although the Hanz de Fuko Claymation and By Vilain Gold Digger gives a matte finish, the HDF Claymation is more matte. (More matte? How can anything be more matte?) This is because the HDF Claymation has dry shampoo and some Quicksand incorporated into it, so it just soaks up all the extra grease, leaving you looking sharp and fresh. If you intend to pull off a neater, more polished look, then the Claymation will suit you more. (However if you want a polished look with a medium shine finish, the Silver Fox is definitely worth a try). I believe the Gold Digger works way better when you’re looking for something more casual and if you have shorter hair.

4. PERSONAL PREFERENCE

Personally, I don’t find organic products better than non-organic products, especially when it comes to hair products. I will not buy something just because it’s organic. When it comes to hair quality and scalp health, as long as you’re using a conditioner, you’ll be fine. So if you say you’re looking to get the HDF product range ‘because it’s organic’, you may want to think again. Look at what else the HDF can offer, and if it will really work for your hair type and the hairstyle you want. Don’t buy it because it’s organic. Buy it because it suits you.

All in all, I think it all boils down to what you want, what your hair type is, and what kind of hairstyle you want to achieve.

The perfect brush for your hair type

The perfect brush for your hair type
Jun 02, 2017

brush_de176e38-d4e7-4524-9035-5a4e60afe82c_1024x1024.png

A hair brush is essential to everyone. It aids in blow drying and prevents dandruff buildup, it aids in pre-styling and helps you get your hair in the right shape before styling, it helps prevent hair from tangling and detangles it as well... It’s essential.

However, the million dollar question is: which brush should I get first? (At this point I should just tell you to get ALL of them, but honestly, nobody needs that many different types of brushes.)

1. ALL ROUND HAIR STYLING BRUSH
roundbrush_large.png

It’s inexpensive, boosts volume (really useful for people with thin hair), and really great for pre-styling. While blow drying, the round brush can be used to form curls and bends in the right directions so your hair doesn’t just stick upwards. Styling your hair is definitely easier after using the round brush. It’s not that great if you have thick hair, though. Mainly because the bristles are pretty packed up so there will be quite a lot of tugging.

- Good price point

- Good for pre-styling

- Recommended for those with thin and straight hair

- Suitable hair length: Short to medium

2. BY VILAIN 9-ROW BRUSH
9row_large.png

Ah, the classic styling brush for men. It’s actually the best seller among all the other brushes we have here. 9 rows of bristles packed in an average sized brush gives you maximum control during pre-styling. Those bestowed with thick hair will be grateful for this feature because it styles a large section of your hair effortlessly so you spend less time pre-styling, with better and more defined results. It also tames even the wildest hair and helps style bends without making your hair look too big.

- Good for pre-styling

- Gives very good control, can style large amount of hair at one time

- Recommended for those with thick hair

- Suitable hair length: Medium to long

3. BY VILAIN SKELETON BRUSH
skelebrush_large.png

While some guys like their hair to be as sleek and as neat as possible, some prefer a more natural and effortless look. (Can’t let the ladies know you spent 30 minutes on your hair, am I right? ;) ) The skeleton brush is perfect for those trying to achieve a natural look. This brush gives your hair increased volume and a little bit of bounce so that the hair product won’t easily weigh it down. Use it after styling to form natural and inconsistent waves in your hairstyle for a naturally messy look.

- Great to use during blow drying, detangles hair easily

- Adds bounce and volme to lifeless hair

- To be used after styling for a more natural look

- Recommended for any hair type and length

4. BY VILAIN PADDLE BRUSH
paddle_large.png

The By Vilain Paddle Brush should mainly be used for hair care instead of styling. Not only does it help to untangle hair, it actually prevents your hair from getting tangled up in the first place. Use it before bed to separate all your hair, and use it before the shower so that all your hair products can reach each strand. The paddle brush is also very good for guys who do not have the habit of washing your hair before styling. Just use the paddle brush before jumping in to your styling routine.

Prevents tangles and bad bedheads

Great for guys who don’t wash their hair before styling

Recommended for those with thick, curly and unmanageable hair

Suitable for all hair length

All in all, each brush really has its' own benefits. Take a look at the recommended hair types and hair lengths to help you decide on which brush to get. I definitely recommend starting off with a styling brush first.

The Right Mister for your Hair

The Right Mister for your Hair
Jul 13, 2016

If you're looking for a hair product that gives you a natural look and does not damage your hair, we highly recommend trying out the Mister Pompadour range of products. With all the different products in their range, here's a post on the difference between the Natural Beeswax Paste, Moroccan Texture Paste, Peppermint Pomade, and the Sculpting Clay.

NATURAL BEESWAX PASTE

- Matte finish with strong hold

The Natural Beeswax Paste (yes, it's made of beeswax, and yes, it does smell a little like honey) gives a natural matte finish. Its' strong hold can keep your hairstyle in place for at least 6 to 8 hours depending on hair length, but the formula does not stiffen your hair.

This paste works best for those with thicker hair and if you're looking for a hairstyle with some texture and if you like it a little messy.

SCULPTING CLAY

- Matte finish with medium hold, volume boosting

I would say the Sculpting Clay is the most underrated product of the range. The hold is not as strong as the Beeswax Paste, but the lightweight formula can give your hair a volume boost. This also means that your hair won't be weighed down by the product, so even if there isn't super strong hold, it's still pretty decent. The Sculpting Clay is best used as a pre-styler, cocktailed with other products with higher hold such as the Beeswax Paste or Original by BluMaan.

The Sculpting Clay is great for people with fine hair and if you're looking to get a pompadour or if you have an undercut. Apply more for a touch of healthy shine.

MOROCCAN TEXTURE PASTE

- Medium hold with low shine

This... is not a paste. It's more like a styling cream but with better hold and less shine. The paste is super pliable and very easy to apply, with almost zero tugging. The paste doesn't harden over time so you can easily adjust your hairstyle if it ever goes out of shape. The low shine makes your hair appear clean, and not dry but not greasy either. And, as the name suggests, it adds texture to your hairstyle without making it look like you use product in your hair.

This texture paste is best for people with short hair. Works for both messy and casual hairstyles, and for those who prefer to have a bit of shine over a dry matte finish.

PEPPERMINT POMADE

- Medium hold with high shine

It smells great! Literally smells like fresh peppermint right out of the jug. As a water-based pomade, the hold is generally better than most water-based pomades out there. The difference is, this pomade won't damage your hair and scalp and the shine, while maintaining the sleek look, does not make your hair and forehead look or feel greasy. On top of that, the pomade is really easy to wash off because it's water based.

If you're usually using pomades and looking for a product that is better for your hair, try out the Peppermint Pomade!

Did I mention that not only do these products give you a more natural and original look, they are also great for your hair and scalp. Made with premium ingredients that are paraben free and free from other damaging alcohols and chemicals, this range of products can nourish your hair from the root to the tip while still delivering in terms of great style.

Morris Motley - What are you paying for?

The Hair Styling Guide Every Man Should Know
Aug 10, 2016

The Morris Motley products are a recent addition to our store. Now, it is a bit more expensive than the other products we have, but we promise you, it's worth it.

THE LOWDOWN

Morris Motley products are formulated in Melbourne, Australia. Created by a man with real passion for hair, he was searching high and low for a product that will not damage your hair while delivering high standards in terms of styling. When he couldn't find anything that fits the bill, he came up with three styling products that does just that.

TREATMENT STYLING BALM

Cool name. And it's a product worthy of the name. The Morris Motley Treatment Styling Balm is not described as a hair styling product, but a hair care product. The smooth balm allows you to evenly spread the product in your hair without any tugging, and it's packed with so much amino acids so keep your hair nourished and moisturised throughout the day. To those of you who prefer to skip the routine of conditioning your hair, you should really consider using a product that doubles as a hair care and hair styling product.

The Balm is also easy to wash off so you don't need to use too much shampoo which dries up your natural oils. Not only that, in humid Singapore where you simply have to wash your hair everyday, it's almost impossible not to strip off all natural oils from your hair.

Some of you may find that the product works just as well as other, more affordable products. Sure, matte finish, super high hold, very pliable... Many products out there can do just that. But you can definitely tell the difference once you start using this treatment styling balm. If your hair is healthy, it becomes easier to control, easier to style, and it just looks better. In the long run, this is definitely the better product.

The original Treatment Styling Balm comes with a matte finish, but recently Morris Motley came up with a new variation of the balm called Chrome which gives the same benefits but with a controlled shine.

Unlike other products, you're paying for quality hair care and styling product when you buy Morris Motley. It's an investment that will generate more value than you can imagine in just a 100ml jug.

We'll talk about the Cleansing Oil in another post, but, long story short, why would you wash your hair with shampoo that just eats up all kinds of oil (including your natural hair oil) and still expect to have healthy hair?

The Difference Between Morris Motley Treatment Styling Balm and Chrome

The Difference Between Morris Motley Treatment Styling Balm and Chrome
Aug 15, 2016

The Morris Motley Treatment Styling Balm came first, and it comes with a firm hold and a matte finish. This styling Balm boasts the ability to nourish and treat damaged hair, all while helping you achieve the hairstyle you need.

After the Treatment Styling Balm came out, there was a really high demand for it, and many have requested a version with a shiny finish.

Rob Mason, the Barber and hairstyling extraordinaire who created the styling Balm then came up with Morris Motley Chrome, which does the exact same thing as the styling Balm, except now it gives a nice shiny finish.

Another thing to note about the Chrome is that you can adjust the amount of shine you want based on the styling technique and the amount of product you use. Layer them bit by bit as you are styling your hair until you achieve your desired level of shine.

Long story short, the treatment styling balm came first and comes with matte finish, while the chrome is the same thing with a shiny finish. The chrome can be adjusted to achieve your own desired level of shine by varying the amount of product used and your styling technique.

For a more detailed explanation on what the treatment styling balms do, read this.
