"To be eligible for FairPrice membership, you must be a union member or a member of the NTUC General Branch. The latter is catered for those whose workplace does not have an in-house union or for those in managerial / executive positions. Upon acquiring union membership, you can then apply to purchase FairPrice shares (for 20 shares only) at $1 per share plus $3 entrance fee. For more details on NTUC General Branch Membership, please call 6213 8008. "

aboved extracted from ntuc fairprice website. Included in the second group (ie NTUC general branch) who can apply for Fairprice membership are NTUC Income Policy holders.

I got mine under this group. Initially was 20 shares, then one of the years, we were offered to take up more shares. I heard ntuc no longer offer more shares.

Then the law changed: non-unionised individuals acquiring ntuc fairprice membership after 1 May 1993 shall pay an annual fee of $40 to ntuc. such annual fee shall be deducted from their patronage rebates. when the annual partronage rebate does not exceed $40, the lesses amout deducted shall be deemed to have met the requirement of the by-law for that financial year.

ntuc.org.sg/membership

NTUC membership is open to anyone above 16 years of age, except personnel from Singapore Police Force, Singapore Prisons, Auxiliary Police bodies, foreign domestic workers and full-time students.

Please note that the NTUC membership fee is $117 per annum ($9 per month from Jan-Nov & $18 in Dec)

Is it worth paying $117 for union membership just to get $40 plus in rebates (about $800plus spend), plus the little div from $20 shares for your ntuc fairprice membership?

or

Is it worth paying $40 or less in annual fees with "free" ntuc fairprice membership if u hold NTUC Income insurance policies?

Yes, unfortunately I joined just after 1993 hence $40 annual fee hv been deducted from my rebates yearly.:( Otherwise the rebates very good.

But since we'll been paying $40 annual fee (their law need to change), why can't we auto become union members? Or is there different recognition for those union & non-union memberships? Why should one make to pay the $40 annual fee just to become Fairprice members?

there's many more like discount at F&B, discount rate at downtown east etc...
many subsidize courses at E2I... most importantly is the union protection at workplace...

I don't remember receiving any letter w the goodies you mentioned. Must be SG50 treats. Usually money in on September. How come you received so early?

I have 1000 shares, plus some bonus shares which i got in 1991/2. Wish Fairprice can become public-listed, but it is just wishful thinking.lol

Have not received the annual Fairprice slip yet.
This is dividend only, or dividend plus rebates for purchases?
