After using the M1 mac mini, I find it not much difference from my 2018 mac mini. it is much cooler, and wakes up almost instantly, but my 2018 mm has 32GB memory, pretty fast too. will have to monitor and decide whether to keep it or not.

suggest u return. am using mini m1 8gb ram now.

it's fast but in computing, sometimes speed works up to a point only and it's not an issue anymore. as long as not too slow and don't hang often can liao.

yours is also 32gb ram already very high spec. not happy can always add on egpu and play pc games until song. if video editing is your thing, got youtuber try with egpu showing slightly faster than m1.

for cooling, always tot only HWC ppl care about this kinda thing. so it's not really an issue unless your fan kicks in at high speed. but for mini intel, don't think tats the case. thermal issues are mainly with mbp and air where the chassis is too thin and fan at wierd position.

take your 1k go buy mba m1 or ipad pro better. do note im referring to your case only, not all.

My previous Mac Mini 2011 (Core i5, 2GB RAM upgraded to 8GB RAM, 512GB HDD, with FireWire 800 and USB 2.0) was very hot at times and the system could hang. In the end the power supply died in early 2019.

The new Mac Mini M1 (8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) seems to be much better in terms of thermal performance.

But this is probably not a fair comparison as there are multiple revisions in between.

Mac Mini 2011 -- 2012 -- 2014 (all belong to 3rd gen)-- 2018 (4th gen) -- Mini M1 (5th gen).

Ha happy with it, downloaded chrome Firefox beta o365 beta that provides m1 native support. Only complain Netflix max resolution 1080p short of the 4K I am subscribed to, Netflix say need t2 security chip but m1 is embedded need them to update their codes.

Used a Logitech usb wireless keyboard and mouse no issues. Struggled with trying to reset the Mac to factory defaults as I logged in with my Apple ID and synced with my phone data but decided against it. The recovery menu is by pressing the power button for 4s no more of the command R nonsense. Much easier but some people say upgrade to 11.0.1 before doing a reset which I did without issues

thanks for the advice, in fact i also got a razor core/vega64 egpu to play games and sometimes edit videos. i just wiped my 2018 mm and clean install the macos to compare it with the m1 mm. i'd switch between the 2 of them and see if there is any big differences to keep the m1 mm.

u're right, the M1 mm is much cooler and quieter than the previous mm. if ur previous mm has died, it is right to get the M1 mm.

Stuck at installing O365. Force quit the installer and then choose preview or beta channel from the usoft updater to install a native M1 version.

I dunno why but my MBA seems to not have good battery life. From 6.45pm till now I am using it to charge my iPhone 11 Pro max, use WhatsApp web and surf the net using safari. Now battery life dropped to 81% from 100%.

Haha, I was using licensed MS Office 2011 for Mac previously. Now I am planning to use LibreOffice and a bit of Google product since Office 2011 for Mac has reached EOL back in Oct 2017.
