Not getting the AirPods Pro: should I get Gen 2 or wait for Gen 3?

I can't wear in-ears coz they hurt too much and I loved the fit of Gen 1 (mine broke after after 1.5 years). I'm not sure whether to just get the Gen 2 or to wait for Gen 3.

According to the MacRumors Buyer's Guide, it's at 'Neutral' and 'mid-cycle' - that's why I was a bit confused. There's a big gap in release dates between Gen 1 and Gen 2 and each quite far apart in month of release, so I'm confused as to what the planned release month is.

Is there a possibility they would announce them this March during the launch event? Any thoughts?

As you said, the release of the Airpods is currently in 'mid-cycle', and no one will know if a new generation will drop. What is quite likely though, given the recent release of the Airpods Pro, is that the new generation of the Airpods will have incremental upgrades (in terms of features).

Maybe slightly better battery life and connectivity? I don't think we are going to get a redesign, especially if Apple needs to differentiate between this and the Airpods Pro. So my take is to get the Gen 2 but look for discounted ones from 3rd party sellers.

There was a delay between Gen 1 and Gen 2 due to AirPower delay and eventually cancellation.

I think its okay to buy the Airpods 2 now. If not, you can consider buying a second hand Airpods while waiting for the 3rd Version to be out.
