I faced similar dilemma a few years ago for my solo trip. I like sightseeing and both places offer 1 day trip like Melbourne has great ocean road while Sydney is blue mountain. In the end, I went Melbourne instead of Sydney as I thought Melbourne is easier to travel around and culture more laid back. And my friends around me all recommended me to go Melbourne over Sydney as they felt Sydney is quite similar to Singapore. Have you booked your trip?

Sydney is overrated. Roads are narrow, infrastructure is old and run down, too many FT. Whole CBD looks like Shanghai cause too many tiongs.

As someone who has lived there for a number of years, I do think you're too quick to dismiss Sydney. Just curious how much time you've spent there to make such an assessment?

Yes. Royal National Park, Blue Mtns, Port Stephens etc. But the CBD sucks. Too many FT. Signboards and Advertisements are written in Mandarin. WTF. I visit Sydney to experience amdk culture and not to see ah tiongs and CECA.

That is why I rather visit Perth and Adelaide because there are fewer FT.

That's a little harsh. If anything, I know of roads in Melbourne that are much much narrower, and there still isn't a train line to the airport (and some of those trains that go to the suburbs require you to open the doors yourself manually).
