COE Renewal/Transfer ownership

Hi. I am quite noob in these.
Anyone can give me some advice please?

The family car is turning 10th in Jan 2020. In view of the uptrending COE prices, we decided to do early renewal.

Questions:
-My father wants to transfer the car to my name. How to go about?
- do we forfeit current insurance under my father's name and buy a new one under name?
- how about road tax ? It is already fully paid till Jan 2020.
- there is no NCD transfer if he still drives another vehicle right?
- anything else i need to be made aware of?

Can the transfer do done in LTA office or obly online? I not sure what to input for the intended 'transfer date' or date for COE effective date.

-find out from LTA
-depending on insurance company, some can refund the remaining insurance with an admin fee and you need to get a new insurance.
-not sure.
-his NCD follows him,you have zero NCD if you start fresh.

For all other questions, you can simply call the LTA hotline to find out.Not too difficult.

Why transfer within the family? Don't see a point to it

NCD can try request to transfer to children.

If your father is thinking to buy another car then use the NCD on the new car.
Get a "2nd car" insurance for the renewed COE one.

Transfer within own family because ? Father not working and want to take loan for coe ? Else why bother although transfer fee is cheap. Might as well just comprehensive insurance cover any driver can already.

Yes. Ncd can transfer within immediate family.
