Under the Environmental Protection and Management (Vehicular Emissions) Regulations, it is an offence for the driver of a motor vehicle to leave the engine of a vehicle idling while it is stationary, for reasons other than traffic conditions.

Does this also applies to Hybrid car?
Not an expert in Cars but saw saw a few sites mentioned that Hybrid car
1) a hybrid car which eliminates idling even when a car is stopped involuntarily
2) A hybrid car should not be idling. That’s what the hybrid stuff is designed for. To avoid unfavorable things like idling.

So it does not produce carbon monoxide because it is not idling.
3) Idle-off: When the car comes to a stop, for example at a red light, the engine is turned off.

Yes apply to hybird also.

Hybrid can't idle for long time without turning on the engine , the electric motor need to be charge.

As long in parking mode, have to fully off the engine. However, you can debate/prove it out if during the duration of your parking, on electric motor. :s13:

Hybrid can sustain longer engine off when stopped but not forever as the battery will drain as well causing petrol engine coming back to charge it, especially during a hot day.

So you’re not committing an offense when you’re idling with only electric motor, but once petrol engine comes back, emissions are created and you can be summoned for it.

I’ve heard of people getting summoned before just by waiting by the road for a short while so just off the engine if you know it’s gonna take more than a minute or two to save yourself from the hassle

Last year National Day and Hari Raya long weekend, the causeway jam was 12 hours. Traffic jam very long, a lot of idling, start stop.

My workshop said one of his customers Honda Vezel hybrid auto shut down cannot restart. He found another car, also Vezel hybrid broke down nearby. In the end, both cars had the same issue at the same time.

It seems hybrid cars cannot go into idle mode for too long, that's why the manufacturer put the auto shut down as part of the design.

Good test ground for SG cars.
We don't have such long jams in sg though.
After all, causeway congestion is never taken as part of the daily usage trend in SG. :s13::s13:
