Hi, I am a o level holder, currently 25 years old this year.

Have been working as an admin assistant for a few years now and I find that I have absolutely no interest in it at all. Just go to work everyday for the money (also because I have no other qualifications)

I am interested in IT and would like to know more about the possible routes to getting an IT certification. I am unable to get diploma as my O level scores are too bad... and I feel that Nitec to Diploma route is going to take too many years.

Any courses that only require 1 year max duration?

Among all the private diploma schools, are there any ones that are more "recognised" or better? Kaplan, MDIS, etc...

Perhaps you can consider aiming for vocational/technical certifications eg., Azure, Splunk, AWS Certifications? That might help especially if you are interested in pursuing a career path in this direction.

It's good to get a diploma in cybersecurity from our local poly if you can. Yes, it's 3 years but you're only 25, you still have 40 years of career ahead so it will be beneficial for you in the long run.

CompTIA A+ is a vendor-neutral, broad-based certification that gives you strong fundamental knowledge in computing systems to give you a good start at systems management, particularly in MSPs.

Some of the roles that you can get are typically labelled as "Desktop Engineer", "IT Specialist", "Field Engineer", "L1 Engineer", "L1 Support", "Desktop Support Engineer" --- some are mixed between MSPs and Internal IT environments.

Yes u can. But dont waste your time with a+. Straight whack ccna and then Security plus, then PMP and try to apply security/Network position. Normally technical security roles requires network background. Then go for cloud security or cyberops or data analytics. Pls get your CISSP after 5yrs. Its just management paper but it will open alot of doors.

Lowball your pay yourself and get your foot in. Go in and learn as much as possible or look newbie role and job hop if no progress in career in 3yrs.

Get your degree part time. I know some IT Degree can get within 3 to 4 yrs from o level PART TIME. Recognized by MOE.

Example.

If u go for developer path, then focus on cloud devops. This is a very rewarding but dunno how long.

Got alot of free course in youtube or SGD18 for udemy course.

Keep up and focus.... Man I wish someone advise me last time.. :( struggle like park.

Not sure how bad is your O Level scores ... have you given it a try. Entry-level requirements for some poly IT diplomas are not so high. Perhaps you can try again. Try Republic Polytechnic, where they are more 'user' friendly.

To ensure your poly success, try for a full-time course and later, as an IT diploma holder your job opportunity will be greatly enhanced. There is a tremendous shortage of qualified IT people in Singapore.

Certifications alone without an academic platform will not fly.
