[PS4] Nioh

The demo is out on PSN, anyone playing it?
horribly difficult, who wants to co-op?!

PierceLee 22-01-2017 12:48 PM

Video from Taipei Game Show... Nioh stage event (0:17:13) and interview with game director (1:35:00)

at 2:01:45, question asked: why does William in Nioh look like Geralt in Witcher 3? :s13::s13:

keitaro123 23-01-2017 11:31 AM

the game is nice but i think lacking a little in the graphic department.

the characters and also the enemy looks nice but the environment is another story.

i lost count how many times i lost my footing and fell into the water. the fog and all the lighting in the game is kinda screwed up, making it so tough to navigate around the area seeing where should i go.

Thessauron 05-02-2017 04:13 PM

Tried the demo months ago and it was freaking difficult.

I didn't even made it pass the first fight. Hopefully, that's a bug of sorts.

kiryu86 05-02-2017 04:37 PM

any difficulties settings? i dun like games that is too difficult, cuz i wan to enjoy the story and have a leisure time with the game and not some stressful time.

There's no difficulty settings, the game is challenging by default, either you overcome the odds or you don't.

If you've heard of dark souls series or bloodborne, this game is like those type.

Nioh is more challenging than DS or bloodborne, its basically an ARPG version of ninja gaiden on master ninja mode, very brutal if you are not into action games that require twitch gameplay.

Yeek. And DS is like always on those top 10 hardest game lists.

Hmm just wondering, anyone have any idea on the price for the physical version? Those who PO'ed.

$70, at least for me

AikiBoy 09-02-2017 12:28 PM

played the demo. really dun like it.

still prefer dark soul.
Not sure what is the improvement

3dfxplayer 09-02-2017 06:13 PM

So I've just finished the game and I take back what I said about this game's difficulty. Its actually a lot easier than soulsborne games because you gain a lot of powerful tools/skills as you level up, its really more RPG than ARPG, has more in common with diablo3 than soulsborne.

Its a 7/10 for me, game is too "grindy" for my liking.

Finished?!..........wow so fast?!!?:s22:

qwertified 10-02-2017 09:23 AM

Just finished the first area, so far it does seem easier than souls games even dark souls 3. Nioh first boss like dummy boss liddat whereas ds3 first boss alrdy killed me a few times no chance given, bloodborne even no need to say

Not exactly the same impression as i had with the demos

merrr111 10-02-2017 11:00 AM

heard the 1st part is easy to pass through to get u used to the gameplay...the later stages will be much tougher n can get u frustrated lol
still thinking if i shld get this or not when i go search for yakuza 0...

I think the demo was harder, seems to me that the damage was reduced and some enemies were removed, but this wouldn't have been a hard game anyway, onmyo skills like sloth and extraction trivialises most boss fights.

i think it will be harder in new game+ mode like last time ninja gaiden master ninja mode.

qwertified 12-02-2017 10:31 PM

The first area with the boss in the ship is definitely nerfed compared to the beta, less enemy placements overall, also their detection range like shorter now, not so easy to aggro multiple enemies.

Just beaten 2 areas (excluding the initial part) together with the sub-missions, the 2nd sub-mission of the 2nd area really pissed me off lol, the red warrior + big skeleton dude so irritating to fight.

Thessauron 12-02-2017 10:54 PM

Argg, so tempted to buy it cos of the Jap setting. I wonder whether it's nerfed enough for aged players like me.

U can ask random players to co-op help u out. Only those that completed the map can help.

Depends on what games you used to play. If you had experience in games that require some twitch response like bayonetta or ninja gaiden, should be fine.

I've never played onimusha so i dont know how difficult that game is. Not to cs extent, honestly i feel i cant play cs ranked anymore lol.

As long as u know a certain move is coming and u are able to dodge it at the last second, thats good enough. U know, the standard boss attack patterns reading.

How would you guys rate the difficulty level in such games?
DS>DS2>Bloodborne>DS3>Nioh>Lords of Fallen?

DS is known for not handholding the players. You are just thrown into the world, no instructions, not tutorial, nothing telling you what to do next or where to go, nothing telling you about the story even, you have to explore and find out yourself. Nioh does a better job at that right? It introduces new mechanics slowly, the first half dozen hours is basically a long tutorial? Is it actually accessible to new comers (say someone more used to action games like God of War or Devil May Cry)? (I keep hearing Nioh is more Onimusha + Ninja Gaiden than DS, it's very different game.)

AikiBoy 13-02-2017 02:03 PM

i find DS harder....
this one got too many boost from item equipments and kodame.

but skill trees too big... but if farm enough. can master all skill right?

Only because its faster paced and moves like combo enemy ->purify yokai realm ->dash away from enemy requires fast and precise execution, the overall gameplay is still very much like DS. More DS than bloodborne because u can block, blocking very important here, will take 0 dmg from most attacks as long as u have stamina.

Nioh has a dojo that teaches u all the basic moves u need to at least beat the first 2 bosses, the skills that u can learn later on, each got a video that shows u how it works.

So far i still find bloodborne more difficult, ds3 is slightly easier than this. The others i didn't play much so can't comment.

I played and completed gaiden b4. Not exactly a walk in the park, but got accomplishment feel. :P

Still remember that stupid shoot arrow fight in the first gaiden. Stage TWO.

But that was years ago, when I was ... younger

qwertified 15-02-2017 12:03 PM

Dont worry, once u start playing u'll become young again lol. The first part is some kind of a warm up

The worst i've fought so far is the duel vs tachibana muneshige (sub-mission). Sipe jialat, i died like 100+ times over 3 hrs before finally taking him down. The dash attack so hard to siam, 1 mistake only he KO me liao.

Main missions not so bad, some bosses 1st time can beat liao. Great centipede is a joke

Did you imbue your weapon with fire for that boss? Its incredibly vulnerable to fire, you do very little dmg without fire and it will eventually one shot you with the laser at some pt.

Frog can be killed with sloth, don't even need 2, just 1 cast is enough for you to unload your attacks on it.

These are just examples of why I think this game isn't exactly more difficult than soulsborne games, there are ways to make yourself super powerful (extraction + living weapon) or enemies super weak (sloth + discord). The game is only incredibly difficult if you try to play without using the blacksmith or onmyo/ninjutsu, kind of like how DS1/2 would have been difficult if you didn't cheese with magic.

the story is not really it's best part. it's just there to give you some direction and lore/bg for the bosses

it also makes itself stand out from the other souls games for having it's own story and personally i already felt very lost when playing any of the soul games so i like nioh more because i actually feel like i have a purpose besides some nameless ghoul walking around, killing everything that moves because theres nothing alive in the entire game that is my friend

tidiii 17-02-2017 04:07 PM

the last boss orochi so ez sia. but i stuck at clone kelly zzzz

Dash towards him when he's about to attack, hit 2-3 times at his back. Dont hit too many times he'll do a sweep, back off then rinse and repeat. These are basic souls-esque boss fight tactics, always dash towards the boss's left/right side when he attacks. Never dash backwards unless u're already a certain distance away, their frontal attacks are designed to hit a certain area in front, so if u're too close and u dash back, u'll still get hit

In any case, there's always youtube. :)
