What you guys think about the screen being touch screen?

It's confirmed it will be touchscreen

But with the controls, is it still necessary for the touchscreen?
Yes, ds and 3ds sold like hot cakes but those 2 are stylus based. Nintendo's first touchscreen console wiiu doesn't sell that well coz its quite a poor product that doesn't accept multitouch.
And the games are designed to be played as a console in the docking station with tv. With it docked there is no way for the touchscreen aspect to work at all.

Jus a thought lar. I got a feeling the price will be so high that it is doa
So dropping the touchscreen should be able to drive the price down.
But then, with touchscreen, this would be the perfect all in one multimedia device.
The joycons are rumoured to have IR and can act as pointer when docked to mimic touch if games require. Touch screen would also be better if there's web browsing function.

Hmm... What do you guys think?

"The Switch could be the return to Nintendo’s glory days that gamers want. Or it could flop. Right now, the details are too scarce to know. Remember that – or brace for disappointment."

Err what the author is trying to say is how Switch became overhyped especially among Nintendo fans?

Yes we ought to be cautious about the overhype, at the end of the day this is just like vita with vita tv function included, except that:

1. Vita tv only works with a limited no of titles for whatever stupid reason; this one should work for all titles
2. This is essentially a nintendo portable console with the convenience of porting the games to tv, the library of games available should be impressive. Just dont expect sui sui 1080p 60fps graphics with AA as that has never been nintendo's strongsuit, just upscaled mobile quality games.

Actually I do think Nintendo will go for 60fps
Jus that the art style will never match or of the same quality of their counterparts

I am more interested in the ways games can be played differently. But please not that wiiu bs lol

and no point going for straight 1080p
The norm now is dynamic resolution

1. specs - this thing needs to be at least be on par with xb1 / ps4 in terms of specs. cos there is already a population of over 70 millions of those 2 consoles which makes them the basic system requirements which 3rd party devs follows when they are making a game.

2. 3rd party support - we all know what happened to a console without 3rd party support. this is pretty much similar to the 1st point. if the switch is weaker than the other current gen consoles, then it will need to prove itself with sales figure. if not, 3rd party devs are not gonna waste too much time making games for this console. period.

I won't worry about specs too much tbh.
Those 2 are using 3 year old architecture. And PS4 pro is already showing the bottleneck in cpu and games are running worse on that machine.

If nx were to use x2, that would be awesome. Then again Nintendo consoles are never about specs. Specs chasers are better off with pc master race. People buy consoles to play console games not potato version of pc games

Unique gameplays will be the winning factor for nx, a way that the other 2 can't provide. Then again unique gameplay is a work or die approach. Remember tony hawk skate device?

Sony and Microsoft are also finding ways to provide new ways to game, now they are into the vr market. Exciting times. Or maybe nx is doa. Lol

i know specs wise is not nintendo strong point, however, like i said previously, it needs to be on par to at least get 3rd party support especially since it will have to prove itself in terms of sales. if the sale of this thing tanks again, 3rd party devs are simply not gonna spend the extra effort of downgrading their game just to let it run on the switch.

ppl game on console for various other reasons, some ppl just like the convenience of console gaming. most if not all of the time, you pop in the game and start it and it just works. there are also ppl who do not like to deal with things like drivers issues and OS issues and broken pc ports and etc.

unique factor? whatever is unique to you may be a novelty kinda thing to others. yes. there used to have a miracle in the Wii last decade. but that was a different time when the casual crowd are unable to game on their mobile phones. and even though the hardware sales of that thing is over the roof, the software sales of that platform totally stinks.

oh and one last thing, price is an important factor as well. the recent leak price of 250USD seems to be a sweet spot for ppl. but then again with 250USD, are we gonna get an X2 in it?

Or don't release at all if the downgrade is too significant to the art style of the game.

Higher specs = expectations
Higher fidelity games will take longer time to develop. Vr is a good example. Games need to be in 90 fps to reduce motion sickness. Modern consoles can't even get to 60 fps without downgrading visual. That's why most psvr games are ugly. Games liked Rez took a different approach to graphics in order to achieve that. Till now there is no killer titles.

And the assets of games also contribute to loading times.

In fact easier hardware may also attract developers especially indies

I do think we will end up with X1 and everyone will kpkb and then forget about it.

nope. there is no news on them or if there is any recruitment program at all.

there is also another rumor point to 199USD for the cheaper version and 250USD for the higher storage version.

hope Virtual Console is also available from day 1. playing Final Fantasy 6 on the go on be nice.

and here's a video of the price of VR:

oh well. the wait

Its not possible to have comparable specs with ps4/xb1, to do that and sell at 250 usd would most likely mean selling the console at a loss, which is never nintendo's intention. Their hardware is always overpriced in terms of components used, ppl who got buy their stuff before will sure know.

They also wont get much 3rd party support, partly because of the reason above, partly because of their choice of storage for the games: cartridge. How big can those get? I play pc versions of lots of newer titles, most of them are like 40gb minimum.

The switch's selling point is pretty much the same titles: zelda, mario, mario kart, splatoon, etc. Either you like them or you dont. Also got a bunch of 3rd party games that traditionally only appear on nintendo handhelds like shin megami tensei, bravely default, monster hunter, pokemon.

I never expected Nintendo to compete in terms of raw power with PS4/XBone but will be a huge mistake if the rumored 720p screen is true. In this day and age, the minimum you have to go for is 1080p.
