Situation:
Switch with 2 accounts. Let's call them PlayerA and PlayerB.

Purchase game (online store) with PlayerA. Both PlayerA and PlayerB enjoy the game together.

Like the game so much, want to purchase game for PlayerB, but not able to purchase because online store says "You already own the product" or "You can already play the download version of this game on the device connected".

Nintendo doesn't want my money?

i actually plan to do that. but anyone else encountered the above as i described?

i find it very strange that Nintendo will be able to detect if accounts are sharing a game.

https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/nes/

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo’s upcoming Nintendo Switch Online service is an affordable, multi-featured paid service that lets users enjoy online play for compatible Nintendo Switch games, access classic NES games with added online functionality, back up save data for most games and use additional features for the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app that will enhance the online experience for compatible games.

Nintendo revealed more information about Nintendo Switch Online, including pricing, Save Data Cloud backup and additional details about the classic NES games subscribers will be able to play when it launches in September.

U.S. Pricing: Various price points offer a variety of affordable options for different players.

Individual memberships:
One month: $3.99
Three months: $7.99
12 months: $19.99
Family membership (12 months): $34.99

With a family membership, up to eight Nintendo Account holders will be able to use the Nintendo Switch Online service, even on different systems.
Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online: Subscribers will have access to NES – Nintendo Switch Online, a compilation of classic NES games. The collection will initially include 20 games, with more added on a regular basis. At launch, previously announced games Balloon Fight, Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros. 3 will be joined by Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros., Soccer, Super Mario Bros. and Tennis. An additional 10 launch games will be announced in the future.

For the first time ever, players will be able to enjoy these classic NES games online. Depending on the game, players can engage in online competitive or co-op multiplayer, or take turns controlling the action. Friends can even watch each other play single-player games online, and “pass the controller” at any time. Every classic NES game will support voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app*. It will also be possible to play these games offline.

Save Data Cloud Backup: By using Nintendo Switch Online, a backup of Nintendo Switch save data for most Nintendo Switch games will be stored online for easy access. This is great for people who want to retrieve their data if they lose, break or purchase an additional Nintendo Switch system.

Online Play: A Nintendo Switch Online membership will be needed to participate in co-op and competitive online features for many current and upcoming Nintendo Switch games, such as Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Mario Tennis Aces and Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido.

Nintendo Switch Online App*: The Nintendo Switch Online smartphone application can be used to enhance the online experience for compatible games through voice chat and other features.

So if you have multiple accounts on a Switch, each of the accounts needs to have individual subscription (in order to play online, save to cloud etc), or you need a family subscription to cover all of them (up to 8).

Sounds like those free games are also account locked, meaning only the account with individual subscription can play them (unless local mp game), not sharable with other accounts on the same Switch (unless you have a family subscription).

Not pleased at all with Nintendo following terrible steps of MS and Sony charging for online play and cloud save. Steam offers those for free :/

Regarding the save backup, Nintendo has practically never offered backup before anyway. Wii U save data is tied to the specific Wii U. When your Wii U dies, so do your saves because they don't work on other Wii U. It's worse for 3DS since Pokemon being there means Nintendo will try their best to prevent people from abusing online trading features.

Yes! i want it. i want it. HARD!

why did they keep denying it since last year? guess something to do with MHW.

think the Switch version didn't sell gangbuster numbers in Japan right? let's see how this one will sell.
Capcom reported that Monster Hunter Generations had exceeded 4.1 million units sold worldwide by September 2016, with sales in Western countries described as "solid".[49] Monster Hunter XX has sold 1.7 million copies as of April 2017.[50] The Switch version sold 84,377 copies in its first week in Japan, debuting at no 1 in the charts, but only selling 48.9% of its initial shipment.
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2018/05...ing-nintendo-switch-digitally-retail-june-21/
The launch of Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition last year was a big moment for us, and now it’s time to take the next step in the evolution of this beloved franchise. We’re happy to announce that the Bedrock version of Minecraft will launch June 21 for the Nintendo Switch system, both digitally on Nintendo eShop and as a physical release at retail. As with our recent Better Together update for Xbox One, players who already own Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition will be able to digitally upgrade to Minecraft for free.

Minecraft will be the first game on Nintendo Switch to feature cross-play support across Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Windows 10 PCs, Android devices, iOS phones and tablets, and VR platforms will all be able to play together for the first time ever. Whether they’re working together to build the home of their dreams or standing shoulder-to-shoulder as they enter the End to take down the Enderdragon, there will always be something for friends to do together, regardless of platform.

“Bringing the definitive version of Minecraft to Nintendo Switch is a huge step forward in our journey to unite Minecraft players across any device,” said Phil Spencer, head of gaming for Microsoft. “We’ve worked closely with Nintendo to bring an amazing experience to the Nintendo Switch system’s dynamic and rapidly-growing ecosystem and couldn’t be more excited to deliver what Minecraft players have been asking for.”

As is the case with Minecraft on any Bedrock platform, Minecraft on Nintendo Switch will now also support achievements and Gamerscore, reflecting players’ activities and experiences within the game and allowing them to compare stats with friends.

Minecraft also lets players on the Nintendo Switch system access the Minecraft Marketplace for the first time, allowing them to explore a constantly-growing community marketplace. They can purchase unique maps, skins, and texture packs from favorite creators within the massive Minecraft community. Players will be able to make purchases safely and securely with Minecoins, and all purchases can be enjoyed across every platform on which the Minecraft Marketplace is available.

“This new version of Minecraft offers players even more options to play anytime and anywhere on Nintendo Switch,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “With previously released content like the Super Mario Mash-Up included, players everywhere can experience what it’s like when Minecraft meets the Mushroom Kingdom!”

Stay tuned for the latest game news and updates at Minecraft.net.

It's something to do with paid online service. Don't want to launch a game where people play for free for months then suddenly want them to pay for online. Same goes for super smash bros, should be announcing soon for September release.
