MSI B450 Pro Gaming Carbon AC Ram slot 3 & 4 not working

MOBO: MSI B450 Pro Gaming Carbon AC
CPU: Ryzen 2700x
GPU: Zotac 1070 ti
RAM: Corsair vengeance LED 3200 16GB(2x8GB)
Storage: Samsung Evo 970 250GB + Seagate Barracuda 2TB
PSU: 750W Seasonic Gold Focus Plus

I bought a MSI B450 Pro Gaming Carbon AC 1 week ago from sim lim and have just assembled my PC now. The warranty says it's from corbell. I just want to know if you can advise on how to solve the problem. Else, how to RMA?

I discovered that the DIMM slots 3 and 4 are not working properly. Whenever I put my 2 RAM sticks on slot 2 and 4, BIOS recognizes that the 2 RAMs are inserted but saying only 8GB usable. It can also boot up my fresh install Windows 10, however, it is saying 16GB(8GB usable).

The same thing happens if i put the RAM sticks on slot 1 and 3.

If I put the 2 RAM sticks in slot 1 and 2, it works properly. The 16 GB is usable as recognized in both BIOS and Windows. However, as expected, it's only using single channel mode.

If I put the 2 RAM sticks on both slot 3 and 4, my PC doesn't boot up, which gives me the idea that slot 3 and 4 faulty.

I also tried booting up using only 1 RAM. When it's inserted in slot 1 or 2, it can boot up. If it's inserted in slot 3 or 4, it doesn't boot up. This confirms slot 3 and 4 are indeed not working.

I've read a similar problem on MSI Forum. But unfortunately, it was not resolved.

Appreciate your fast response.

Hi there,

Apologies, missed your post.
For Ryzen, the boot slots are 2/4 with 2 being the master slot.
This is an AMD set standard.
So for individual modules, please use slot 2.

As for dual ch, are you referring to CPUz where it shows single?
It's just referring to the single module.
Don't worry about that.

We'll test a set up and show you some screenshots.

*Apologies, our stocks will only reach next Thursday.

My original problem is that when I put my ram stick in slot 2 and 4, the BIOS is only recognizing 8GB instead of 16GB, but it recognize that it has two 8GB RAM inserted in the board. Even when I boot up my fresh installed windows 10 OS, it's saying 16GB total RAM but 8GB is only usable. I'd like to post a screenshot but the forum is preventing me to post any. I can PM you if you want.

My RAM is Corsair vengeance LED 3200 16GB(2x8GB). Any idea on what's the problem?

btw, to answer your question, "are you referring to CPUz where it shows single? " <- yes I was referring to CPUz.

Hi there,

May I know where which shop did you purchase the board from?

Hi,

I purchased the board from TradePac at Sim Lim. If they still have stock of the same model, will you advise them to exchange my board for a new one? Thanks for you support.

Hi nerue_miller,

Dropped you a PM a couple of days ago, not sure if you read it.

Now that's difficult as Tradepac doesn't purchase from us.

As updated to you in PM, if there is stock we will change for you.
(Of course we need to test the board first to verify)
As of now, there is no stock available.
Latest update from MSI, is 1st week Jan.

Don't want you to have any down time but since the origin of the board is not from them(No sales/biz transaction thru us), there's no way to proceed with the alternative solution either.
As of now, we can only send back the board if it's faulty.
(Of if they are willing to refund you and change to another brand/model.)

/Andy
