Oh? Since you mentioned the mate40, perhaps it is a good time for TSMC to hire expensive lawyers to squeeze argument against he US law which forbids them from doing business with Huawei...Let's see what the US law says:

But does that mean the 2nd largest phone maker will die a final death without TSMC supply to the mate40? haha ?
Just buy cpu from other suppliers but hisilicon will be in trouble

The bigger question is will TSMC able to have zero Chinese customer and replace with more American buyers... while the Chinese continue to pump billions into its own semicon R&D.

Does that mean TSMC will ultimately come under the whim and wants of US law and order ? If like that, what's the point of Taiwan being a member of WTO ?
Either that or TSMC will have to follow the whim and wants of CCP.

if huawei lose out there will be other companies to take their share n give the biz back to tsmc; they've got nothing to lose
I am sure TSMC sales dept is more than capable replacing lost Chinese markets. But then this is a long-term decision which the coy's board and shareholder's have to make: Increase investment in US and setup factory there with all the worker unions, better-paid factory workers and political pressure....What choice do they have ?

In any case, Huawei has already begin its 1st step away from non-Chinese semi suppliers, just like they had done with Google androids with their HMS and ecosystem....all thanks to US law.

Errr.. you forget TSMC is list on NYSE...not in Shanghai.
So yes, no ccp "whim and wants"...and with >60% US customers, it is make business sense for them to toe Trump or the US order....Common sense lah.!

I am surprise to hear there is still Taiwanese smartphone maker that can outsize the Chinese-brand domination in the South Asian market. Hmmm..Anyone using HTC ?

China made a mistake by thinking they can copy and make the chips themselves easily just like how they did with other products that they manufacture

Huawei handset likely will use MediaTek chips after the ban
Both Qualcomm and MediaTek are design houses. Not fabrication plant.
