i pay the indian students $18/hr to clean my house. everything is ex here.

wa, where to find such service? they got website? XD

I buy the 1 year cardio/pool/gym pass for about $500 bucks but its well worth the money since I use it like 5x a week

basket ball court is free of charge, swimming pool about 3-4 dollar per entry but i not sure since i have not paid for a long time as i use the yearly pass

is the pool crowded?
i dont use gym de. unless there is pool pass.

depends on the time of the day...weekend tend to be more crowded

and oh, there is a swimming pool etiquette enforced in the pool, swim on the left of ur lane.

its so unlike sg where ppl just suka suka swim anywhere...even got ppl swim diagonally across the pool :(

Semester starts in Feb, so when do you guys start looking for places to stay? If say start now, you'll actually be only be able to do inspections in Jan when u fly down right unless you guys are leaving soonish. And how would one go about making arrangements to travel to and fro between apartments for the inspections? Taxi or ? Though I have friends there lets say I want to be a lonewolf, how to go about doing it? Is the cab fare cheap?

Personally ill be flying down mid January , stay in a cheap hotel/lodge while settling the student processing whilst looking for a permanent place. Any other better means of going about doing this from people who've passed this stage?

think 2-3 weeks before sch starts is reasonable enough, especially if ur looking for a room by urself.

take the bus, do some research before going to the designated address. better if u sign a hp plan with data and then u can use google map to search for the addresses before going down ( best is to use google street to view the exterior of the house too so u'll know what to expect )

www.translink.com.au

cab fares are expensive... every lamp post 10cents!

i don't think there's any cheap hotel/lodge in brisbane (think most of them about 100++ range) unless backpackers bah.
best if u can stay in friend's place or rent a temp place where u pay by the week.

Bus seems daunting cos if horlan then hongkan. But I guess thats the only mode. With regards to roommates, asians or aussies fare better? I want to go there to socialise with the Aussie locals more given I want more bang for the buck seeing I'm paying a bomb for my education. But, what would you advise?

just ask around bah.. i'm sure people are willing to help:)

regarding roomates.. it doesnt really matter which race ur staying with.. there's bound to be some black sheeps no matter what.

if u wanna socialise, join the clubs i guess . i'm sure there're many activities for u to mix around with the locals.

Locals are pretty lazy especially when it comes to house chores.

Some cheats/tips for Brisbane living

1) Southbank cinema has a $5.50 Tuesday movie special. Southbank cinema is as good if not better than our local cinema, got the IMAX screen for selected theater

2) The train station does not have the turnstile like in SG *hint* ;)

3) Indooroopilly megaplex requires you to have the student ID card + a cinema card which you can get from the counter staff in order to get the $7 student price for any movies. Indooroopilly megaplex is generally a favorite amongst students because of the superior sound and visual quality

4) Get the CINEBUZZ card from Indooroopilly megaplex, watch 10 movies get 1 free. Use it for those super ex 3d films

5) BOOST juice got the card which u can collect points, 10 points = 1 free BOOST juice, milk shake, smoothie etc

Anyone else got anything??

6) Nudo's on Mary st, produce ur student card and get 10-15% off
Recommendation: their chicken rice is better if not similar to sg's taste

7) Re-Pit in Elizabeth arcade ( Towards Charlotte street )
same like Boost, get the card and buy 10 get 1 free ( small cup tho )

8) KFC
Buy the 5 wing pack for 5 bucks. it's pretty filling for a lunch meal

9) Coles/Woolworths
Every week they'll have some sort of cheap deals, look at their website and see if there're anything that you'd wanna buy
