6... haha didn't used to bother about studies when I was much younger.. I thought they would have an English test for us which I'm kinda confident.. lol you think all this played a part as to why I'm rejected?

Probably, your L1r4 18 is considered pretty high too... Did they even called you up for interview?

Did you apply to NUS too?

As I'm sure you would agree, it's very wasted if GPA 3.85 can't get into the course you want.

So I strongly recommend you take English & A maths over NS. All the best.

My friends got rejected by NTU but managed to get accepted to NUS which I guess is less particular about A maths.

Yup for poly ppl, they conduct interview with a short English write up mainly for those with O lvl English B4 and below... But normally, those people had took amaths in O lvls..

But I heard NUS has a bellcurve system that is undesirable right? I shouldve tried applying NUS too.. yeah.. was pretty confident of getting into ntu since it was higher thn the igp.. guess not haha.

I'll look to take A maths & perhaps eng over my NS for sure.. It will defo be valid right?

There's a bellcurve system in place in all our local public universities :s22:

I guess I wasn't in the running for NTU biz from the start haha :/ Wasn't called up and had no idea.. Think it will be hard for me to get into NTU.. Currently reserving a slot in SMU but it's 4 years and I'm scared the it isn't as recognized compared to NTU NUS

Just thought I should contribute since i benefited from the responses in this thread :)

Moral of the Story: Know What You Want, NEVER GIVE UP!

My Background:

Offered NUS Biz this year through 2 rounds of discretionary admissions interviews

age: 26, 3rd year applying (Always NUS Biz first choice)

Engineering Dip GPA low 2's, Specialist Dip in events etc GPA 3.4

O Levels: L1R4 21, No A Math or pure sciences

SAT Reasoning 1820

I was also shocked at being offered. It really shows that you just need to keep going at it and eventually even the toughest wall will crumble!

True that! Just to share share too..:s12:

I was from ITE and went to Poly finishing with GPA 3.9. Tried to apply to NTU and SMU last year but was rejected with no interviews. This year I went to apply again and I was called up by SMU for interview but was rejected again. However, this year NTU decided to give chance and now I am being accepted!:) So happy!

So.. Like this guy said, the wall will crumble! Haha.. (or perhaps they pity me):o

All the best to everyone!:s13:

For students without a maths, they take a maths proficiency test or something before they are offered

He didn't get in because his OS aren't really that good... It accounts for 10-20% or something

Hey maneatwoman, I guess you are judging someone too early..

Correct me if i am wrong, sunsunflower is actually confused whether she/he is accepted through the second acceptance window or through the appeal. It could mean a lot to her/him as it determines whether she would still be waiting for the outcome of the appeal or if this is the final outcome. This can affect her in many factors such as signing up of camps etc.

I guess if i were her, i would be as worried and giving a call to the admission office would clarify things and give her a peace mind.

I think you are not aware of what he/she did and no it is not okay for the person to do what he/she did based on the circumstances.

The person was fully aware that he/she has been offered a place but he/she selfishly decided to call just to find out whether he/she got accepted due to his appeal or due to the 2nd window period.

It will not affect his/her future a bit by not calling because the offer was already made known.

If you or anyone else thinks it is okay, then all of you are birds of the same feather. The kind of birds that selfishly do things without any regard for others. You guys have the makings of supervisors / managers who'll bully your men just to get ahead.

There are selfish and unselfish people. I hate the former. :)

I wonder if u are even a uni student. At least SunSunflower, whom you considered as selfish, cleared doubt and gave hope to those who are still waiting for a placing that their original application is still being considered and thus having that chance of pursuing a course of their initial choices. How is that being wrong?

Moreover, everything is now computerised. A push of a few buttons will get the answer that he wants. Passionate admin staff can't be that lazy right?

On the other hand, you keep harping and judging that sunsunflower is going to be a bad supervisor that will make his people suffer. But I would rather have a supervisor that pay attention to details and is polite rather than someone who uses hurtful words to demean others on a baseless basis and always judging(referring to you).

Summervin, im from NYP.
I share pretty similar fate as u haha. I took a longer path then my usual poly mates to get to poly. Older by 2-3 years...And it was indeed a v bumpy route to uni...got rejected initially and then appeal successful..

I have been rejected from my NTU appeal, to Sociology.

This piece of news is a huge personal blow to me but I decided to share it here despite personal pain because I had benefited from the advice of forumers here (and some who took the time and effort to reply me through PM) and I hope that in turn, through my sharing, it can possibly help another person gain a more complete insight into the uni's application process.

That said, I'm pretty devastated. I think the most infuriating part is not knowing what I had done wrong to be rejected. My GPA sits well within the IGP range and I personally know of people who had a lower GPA than mine but successfully secured a place in Sociology. I can only deduce that my poor O levels spoiled the chances for me. BUT whether it is truly because of this reason, I cannot be really sure - and this is the frustrating part.

What do they use to calculate the O levels component? Is it L1R5 or L1B4?

What should I do now? Can any seniors advise me please? :(((

Smu is not recognized at all, no point wasting 40k for it. Just reject and wait for nus/ntu

Are you even a university student? Your argument is flawed.

As long as applicants have not received a rejection letter, they are still being considered. What's so difficult to understand that? It's written in black and white that results will be made known in batches up till JULY!

Why must be so kiasu and keep calling?

Huh... SunSunflower was actually rejected during the first window.... So I guess he/she was just puzzled when received an email from the uni...? :/ no need argue small thing lah hahaha

I think instead of reflecting on why you wasn't accepted, you should think of a backup plan.

were you accepted to any course in NTU/NUS/SMU?
If you are a guy still in NS, keep trying again till you finish ns.

I know it's depressing and frustrating, but don't give up.

Hey IloveMilo

I get where you are coming from! I was also rejected by NTU Econs this year and furthermore, I was shortlisted for NAA interview. Despite being shortlisted and asked to upload my NAA supporting documents, I was still rejected and that was a huge emotional setback for me after close to a month of wait. However, don't let this get you down! Continue appealing! Send in letters to the faculty itself! Show them how much you want the course! Might work or might not work but what do you have to lose now. All the best man!
