No, NUS S/U policy does indeed allow many freshies to get GPA 5.0.

When it was first implemented, many wrote in to complain how it dilutes the value of a First Class. 'Real' FCH scorers are unhappy etc etc. Employers may perceive NUS FCH to be of lesser indication etc.

NUS did issue an explanation. Overall the factors balance out.

Anyway NTU honors rate is still higher than NUS due to their direct honors system.

True and False. CAP is calculated using (grade * AUs) / total AUs involved in calculation taken. So say a person with GPA 5.0 in year one with only 4 AUs versus someone with 5.0 in year one with 20 AUs, the former will lose his first class very easily in year 2 because they their 5.0 base is very small whereas the real zai kia will still maintain their first class.
The worrying part is how people may be so unmotivated, their foundation is all so bad for the advance courses.

One thing I noticed though is many NBS students are shy to say there are from NTU, preferring to directly say NBS as though as they ashamed of NTU

NUS wins by a long mile in terms of university branding.

ultimately if you dont care about ubdergrad experienced and only care about the paper, then nothing matters. All 3 uni give you a BBA which most employers view as equivalent.

But this is 3/4 very impt years of your life so choose wisely haha.

Agree there is a lot of reasons to choose NBS over other school.

If you are sure you want to be an accountant via the auditor route, NBS, NUS and SMU enter big 4 with the same pay and with time value money, 3 years earn you probably more than 100k when you are old.

If you want to go business especially the banking people, in this environment the key to securing a job is not only grades but experience. Compare someone with similar grades, someone in NBS can graduate in 4 years with 2 6 month internship which NUS and SMU won't allow that in the same time (unless you overload) To make this even more attractive, there is a new scheme to allow anyone to take a 6 months internship while still completing within 3 years (double bonus)

Also, the new platform based learning with the largest trading desk learning pod in Singapore make the learning more practical too.

I can't say the same for other specialisation, but overall 3 years save more cost and despite the lower starting pay as deemed by some, 1 year more pay is still worth it.

If I'm not wrong, not all modules can be SU'd over at NUS and if you were to get 4As and 1B, after SU'ing that B, your GPA isn't 5.00 because of the way the GPA is being computed. Correct me if I'm wrong. :spin:

Sent from my potato using GAGT

in nus we call it CAP lar... n it is possible to s/u everything for ur first sem including core modules, altho im not sure if there are any special exceptions set by the individual faculties.

n u will still get a max of CAP 5 for ur first year even if you only has 1A and s/u-ed everything else.

after ur first sem, u will still have 3 s/u left. these 3 s/u can only be used for non-core modules. For some faculties, such as Fac of Sci, u cannot use it on any modules that has a science prefix code even tho u r not majoring in that particular subject.

Imo, NBS is the best among the big three uni. They also have the highest number of top A level students applying.

But each uni still has their pros and cons. NBS is the most established, largest alumni, best reputation locally (if you're going overseas then pick NUS) And can be completed in 3 years inclusive of a 6 mths internship meaning you only study for 2.5 yrs.

Plus consider the direct honors, MOOCs, S/U for gerpes, and a wide range of second specialisation. NBS also has the highest rate of 2nd upper honors among all local uni courses other than Nus law & Nus medicine.

Paywise, there was an article that showed nbs double degree students were earning the most of all everyone. But for single degree SMU wins.

One thing I noticed though is many NBS students are shy to say there are from NTU, preferring to directly say NBS as though as they ashamed of NTU

NUS wins by a long mile in terms of university branding.

Both of you need to take a seat.

NBS is definitely not the best, their biz school wasnt even that established few years ago, and biz reputation wise smu wins hands down. 2.5 years? you learn very little. All 3 unis have top A level students applying to them, how much though, we dont know.

They may have the higheat rate of 2nd honnors but get paid a lot less than those with cum laude in GES 2015.

It isnt NTU or NUS that has a wide range of biz specialization. It is SMU. They allow students to cuatomize their major and double degree in literally anyway possible that allows them to pursue what they actually like.

Ntu's NBS's double degree pay still loose out to those single degree lkcsb holders. Even the GES and cna article proved it.

Back than, NTU and NUS didnt even consider the possiblity of versatile learning and flexibilitt of a double degree or double major.

It was only after smu was introduced, and implemented it that it became so succesful that the other 2 just had to copy.

NUS makes use of their overhyped ranking to attract people. Something that is determined by how many post graduate programs you have, the variety of courses offered in order to be eligible as a full-fleged uni.

The only reason why SMU or NTU is behind those rankings is because:

1) NUS had more years to establish themselves
2) The SG govt will always be more biased to NUS because it is intended to brand them as the main flagship uni of sg for PR purpose
3)Some unis do not offer certain courses, which is the pre-requisite for them to attain full fleged, international ranking in the community.

Just cos NUS has high ranking dosen't mean they have better undergrad degree pay.

1) smu produces more well rounded, versatile different U-grads whom are v vocal and proactive that commands the higest pay amongst all biz schools

2) NTU is the worlds top 50 youngest biz schools and it stands out in its own way.

If today the SG govt decided that the flagship U of sg is either SMU or NTU, they would natrually attain highest ranking and likewise is true for NUS.

if you talking about whole NUS... generally is 1st year 1st sem can S/U the core mods. if talking about Business... 1st sem and 2nd sem can S/U.. total of 20MC worth of modules... on top of this... 12MC additional.. which used to be for electives only.. now can be used on cores as well.. as long as it is a lvl 1000 or 2000 module with no pre-requisite. Assuming everything else constant in the 3 unis... this is quite an advantage if you are not a genius and cant get all As hahah.

ultimately, getting into the school is one thing... graduating with a good score is another :) (that is if CAP/GPA is one of the higher priorities for you, if not... this consideration is not for you haha. let this be a note for others then.)

if you actually plan very well how to use your S/U options, coupled with additional programmes and exchanges... you can excel in your specialisation and not worry about being average in some foundation mods

cheers! NUS open house this sat :s13:

on a side note; there is really not much discrimination among the 3 local U business schools.. won't go wrong one la.. just go in and work hard play hard! if i were going for accountancy, NTU would have been my choice hahah :)

Applied for NUS/NTU/SMU on 19th Feb 2015 with 5 semester GPA at 3.79 but no replies from all 3 yet.

CGPA - 3.79
No CCA - but represented the diploma as ambassadors on frequent occasions
'O' level - 18 (English C6, went to SMU open house and was told that O level English grade won't affect, is it true?)

Anyone applied with similar grades? Please state:

- CGPA (5sem/6sem)
- Date of application
- Date of interview notification & interview date (if applicable)
- Date of acceptance (if applicable)

Thanks.

You can graduate from all 3 universities in less than 3 years. NBS 2.5years(with honours), NUS 3 years (without honours), SMU 3 years.

If you want to work in Big 4, study NBS because it is the shortest and has direct honours. Most of the NBS accounting students go to Big 4, so you will have a huge advantage in term of personal network.

If you want good branding in your resume, go SMU. Many companies like SMU students as they are very vocal. But after your first job, your qualification is irrelevant.

If you want to work in government sector, go NUS.

If you just want to rely on your school to get a job/internship, go SMU. if can't, go NBS.

If you want to start work asap, go NBS.

If you want to earn >5k a month, be in the dean list and be president/VP of a club or chairperson of an event.

If you can't get into local university, be a salesman (property agent, financial planner, insurance agent, or b2b salesman). Don't be discourage if you go this route because VERY GOOD salesman can earn 100k a year. At least you still have a shot to be climb up the social ladder (Social mobility).

The bottom line is that it does not matter which business school you study in. If you are good, companies will headhunt you or/and you can earn alot of money regardless which school you are in. Only the weak will rely on their school for their own future. Degree is becoming irrelevant in today's society.

Very good salesman can earn 100k is an understatement.
I know an insurance agent who earns half a mil a year... And he is jus 27-28 yo.

Many insurance agent at the director level are earning millions. Their income tax alone is in the range of 100k
