Anyone didn't get owned for today's 322 exam? It's like almost 1/3 of the paper requires you to read outside the notes and tutorials. :(

haha that's the amount of question i am unable to answer. So technically i answered 66% of the paper and hoping to score 50% which will enable me a pass provided i score 30% for my assignments and labs

302 for BIT only? Don't think got chance to write 3 lines for 3 marks question, to me it is like 1/2 theory 1/2 calculation paper.

is it good or bad? think out of the box + own readup?:s11:

I would say it rewards those who really love reading up on hardware and computing protocols in their free time. Questions were phrased in a way such that if you have read about something before, you will instinctively remember the answer. It's like a trapdoor function in a way!

I don't read enough lol so it's bad for me. I can see the credit coming...

Are there alot of programming in Digital systems Security?

No. Not really alot. maybe per module have 2-3 assignments need programming. Some of the assignments include:

Kerberos
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerberos_(protocol)
Chord
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chord_(peer-to-peer)

For CSCI361 may ask you to code a classical cipher - latest one is playfair cipher so next time will change. My time was Kamasutra cipher.

361 may need to code in http://pari.math.u-bordeaux.fr/

To me even if it is same topic e.g back out, but as long as not in notes/tutorial directly, it is out of courseware. :( Easily more than 5 marks wor.

Do you remember how your 361 exam was like? Any programming or any out-of-notes stuff e.g. proving Rabin cryptosystem or showing the low decryption exponent attack on RSA or nonsense like proving Fermat's little thrm? :s13:

Last time my tutor wasn't Japit but it was one of the easiest year 2 papers I've taken iirc. Just study what he ask you to study, memorise tutorials, browse through the rest of the lecture notes as usual and you will get at the very least a D if there is no moderation due to everyone scoring too many marks.

Erm no. the module was network security and distributed systems. Not much on the physical networking but more on the concepts. But I do have some background in networking during my diploma in Infocomm @ TP.

However for CSCI322 system admin module you need to know how to do subnetting and plan network structure.

CSCI361 I cannot advise on the structure cos what I heard from last time the seniors the format different. What I can advise is whatever that came out during the class test likely won't come out for the exam except for those calculation questions - "Fast exponential etc".
And there is no so called "proofing" type questions in the exam.

For those who about to join in October or in future, this website can help you. It helped me a bit during my time

There are but I don't see a need for textbooks for this two subjects. The notes are sufficient. If you have Java background learning C++ concepts is generally the same. If you want PM me I can send you the notes.
