University of Portsmouth (On-Campus)

Just researching. Mainly on Professional Degrees in that Uni like BA (HONS) Architecture / MArch for Registration as Architects in Singapore and BEng (HONS) Mech-Civil-Elect / MEng for registration as Engineers in Singapore.

It is pretty much a mid-tier Uni in England. But the living expenses is way lower than London.

Since it is also recognised by PEB:
https://www.peb.gov.sg/html/pe_approved.html

Also the Board of Architects just to add on:
http://www.boa.gov.sg/education.html

At the end of the day, if a potential student considers a career in Singapore/UK as an Architect or Engineer, provided they complete the requisite qualification from the University of Portsmouth in UK, on-campus. So do u guys think it's worth the shot going to? The cost is really low as compared to other England cities. And the city of Portsmouth is small and really conducive for studies as there's little distraction of a big city.

Just wondering. Since ranking really doesn't matter anymore in this case, as it is a Professional Degree meant for registration (like Engineers, Architects etc), especially for Architecture course as it's a design-based programme. So as long as at the end of the day it is recognised for registration purposes... The university ranking doesn't matter at all, can I say? Moreover this University ranking isn't that low anyway. It is literally right smack in the mid-table (UK wise) for all ranking charts I am referring to.

Just a scenario; if a potential student decides to head back to Singapore for his or her Master (like NTU or NUS) after their Architecture/Engineering Bach's degree, their degree will still be recognised too. Since both BOA and PEB recognises University of Portsmouth if u do it on-campus. Just that u are completing the second half of the part in a recognised Singaporean Uni.

All the above scenario are based on potential Singapore-students aiming at Architecture or Engineering courses only. As obviously it will be wiser to go to a higher ranking one, if possible, for courses like Business or Humanities.

with regards to ranking.. subject ranking seem to tell a diff story.

out of 55 uni, its 40.
https://www.thecompleteuniversitygui...s=Architecture
32 out of 52.
https://www.ukuni.net/uk-ranking/subject/architecture
41 out of 56 in this case
https://www.thecompleteuniversitygui...il+Engineering

only 30+- uni, not hard to weed like london uni and just comb all the pages for cost. if you aim is to find a cheap uni

iirc portsmouth cost GBP$15k+ in tuition. venture to the below uni is cad$18.5k is gbp$11k?
https://umanitoba.ca/student/admissi...tion-fees.html
civil here is just cad$11.5k

It's GBP13k. Well, I was saying Overall ranking. Irregardless, like I mentioned, as a Professional Degree, the subject ranking really doesn't matter does it...? Hmmm... Since at the end of the day the aim is to get registered. Am I right to say that? Just my observation.

But anyway I am just wondering in the case of University of Portsmouth. Just taking this particular University for example. >_<

If you cannot enter local school and you wish to become a Professional Engineers or Registered Architects for your career, that the only way to go (Chose 1 university from the list which has the lowest cost for living and course fees).

If this is just a general degree like business, I will feel that it is a waste of money cause studying on campus does not guarantee recognition from public sector and your wages in private sector could be the same as distance learning degree holders.

I don't understand what are you trying to express for 'Just that u are completing the second half of the part in a recognised Singaporean Uni'?

If your on campus degree (University of Portsmouth) is recognized by BOA / PEB, why do you even needs to take a Master Degree?

well its really if U enroll soon.
https://www.port.ac.uk/study/courses...s-architecture
International students 13,900 per year (subject to annual increase)
https://www.port.ac.uk/study/courses...il-engineering
International students 15,900 per year (subject to annual increase)
meeting min req to register doesn't mean U auto register.
PE side U have to take exams and have 4yrs of experience. better ranked Uni typically gives u better training or in SG style better recognition. your prospective employer or HR during selecting ppl for interview may go Oh.. heard of it come on in vs what this Uni.. pass.. maybe a harder few mths to land on something to show your worth thats all.

Overall ranking is not a good yard stick to measure quality, subject ranking gives a better idea and understand the methodology.. end of day it really depends on u at the job.

Thank you for your clarification on just an example.

Is Singapore Government policy affecting Singaporeans.

For example, Distance Learning Degree from PEIs in Singapore not recognized but on-campus Degree from foreigners' home countries are recognized by PEB Sg (Please take notice BCA do not needs these degree holders to be PE and only needs their degree to be recognized by PEB Sg).

So construction sector can hire a Singaporean/PR for position like tea lady at $1K but hire 7 foreigners with work permit/S-Pass for Engineer position at a lower wages around $1K to $2.3K for 6 days workweek.

You think Singaporeans can compete price war with Foreigners?

all no job or just him no job?
his issue or engineering degree issue?
