LETTERLOVE v4: THE ART OF MATCHMAKING BILINGUAL TYPE

In this edition of Letterlove, multi-lingual typographer Joe Chang (Eyeson Type, Taiwan) will be sharing on a much requested topic — Chinese Typography and its relationship to design and latin typography in our multicultural setting of Singapore.

The Chinese script is an emblem of Chinese cultural identity. Under the influence of globalization, bilingual and often dual-script design has become essential. With the rising dual-script needs of contemporary design in the Asia, making or finding a good Kanji companion for Latin has becomes an important typographic issue in graphic design, branding and advertising, and vice versa.

Join us at Letterlove v4: The Art of Matchmaking Bilingual Type as multi-lingual typographer Joe Chang, Director at Eyeson Type (Taiwan) shares from an authentic cultural perspective on the issues faced in matching Chinese and English fonts within cohesive communication systems. After years of work in CJK fonts and his in-depth study of multi-script typefaces at Type and Media (KABK), Joe divulges his deep and diverse experiences in matching these two very different scripts without losing the intended flavor of design — while keeping them consistent and balanced.
