B+W ftw! German precision!

I've got B+W filters on my 2 most expensive lenses, others are having Hoya filters.

Glass of lens is one thing but sometimes if the lens motor spoilt also as good as buying a new lens.

I think other than UV, the rest of the filters u can buy.

Motor should be cheaper to replace as compared to groups of element..

Depends on which glass... was quoted about $500 to fix the SWM of my 70-200.

Fortunately, only general servicing was needed... after NPS, $291+.

Now dreading to send in my 17-35, think will send in after next month, when my credit bill resets super broke.

not talking abt dropping only. a sharp point of impact, say knocking the lens face first against the edge of the table, will most probably damage the front element.

you WILL wish that you have a uv/clear filter in place to tank the damage.

Depends... if you're talking 500, 600, it might be more costly as need to send for recalibration, AFAIK, Nikon can't calibrate these lenses locally, will need to send back to Japan.

Friend bought a 2nd hand 500 f/4, AF pai... seller rather take back than to send in for servicing and pay for it.

My friend once drop his 70-200f2.8 VR lens. From his description, landed on the front but lucky have filter. Filter knocked in and jammed to the front of lens. Got to send back to Nikon to have it removed. Lucky front element not damaged.
