Something I realised about all or most of the compact cameras. They all don't have high low light sensitivity.
There are compact cameras that are pretty good in Low light scenarios....
That is provided you are not bound by Budget....

yeah I was looking at the Canon g7x mk2 and g9x mk2. Don't know which one is better.

Both is about the same price or more expensive than the EOS M100.

Agree on the price. Almost bought it two years back but got the Canon EOS M2 instead due to a bundle price of 650+ (including shipping) that not many can resist. Body + ef-m 22mm f/2 + 18-55mm + speedlite flash + free SD card.

A brand new A6000 with kit is above my budget already.
Unless I buy second hand from Carousell.
Btw. Anything I should look out for if I buy a second hand camera?

I'm not going to spend too much on one coz I'll only be using it for travels. Want something which can take better quality photos than a smart phone.

So far I have zoomed in to these:
1) 2nd hand Sony A6000 + kit lens - about 700
2) 2nd hand Canon G7X Mark II - about 600+
3) 2nd hand Panasonic ZS100/TZ100 - about 600+
4) Brand new Canan EOS M100 + kit lens - about 600+

I would take no. 4 as the best option Canon EOS M100

Brand new G7X M2 is only about $630-$650 if you can find the right sales online.

In my opinion, for a beginner it would be the best choice at this price! I use it over my mirrorless for all of my short overseas trip due to its portability.

Just go with M100, the cheapest mirrorless, good for beginner, compact enough for traveling. Can change lense. Now got free Manfrotto bag. Price $615. I just got it recently.
My old compact cameras lense dirty. Become useless
Mirrorless can get new lense

I would recommend G7X Mk2 as well. It's compact, the flip up screen is useful for selfie, decent zoom range, and relatively fast aperture.
I used it as my secondary camera with my DSLR when travelling, and there are many times when it is easier and faster to use the G7X.
