Offence to take photographs of the Heeren Robinson main entrance?

Was stopped by a "guai lan" security that is an offence to take photographs and demanded me to delete the photos or he will call the police

Is it true that this is an offence?

I guess so, since they own the place..the guard can do anything. Usually this type of shots. I will use tele-lens. Otherwise just wear a lanyard (with the words "MEDIA")

You mean like that cannot? I just took one the other day asking my wife whether she wants to shop there. No guard was there then.

If you are standing in a public place, you are allowed to take all the pictures you want.

He can call the police. Whether they come down is totally different. He is also not allowed to force you to stay there when waiting for the police to come. That will be holding you against your will.

Not an offense if u are outside the entrance.

He also has no rights to ask u delete your photos.

U can actually question him back under which criminal/law section he is referring to.

My knowledge of this is quite limited but I have did POI duty during my NS time and I can tell u this base on what I was taught

-You can take photos as long you're physically in a public place
-He can demand you to delete your photos but you need not comply

Ya if you inside the store than u have to listen to him.

If you standing outside the mall (heeren) he can't ask u delete.

If you at raffles city than inside and outside also cannot as the mall belong to cap land not public area.

Back in the old days before smartphone (before nokia phone has camera) and social media was popular. I take Christmas tree and deco inside mall with a point and shoot camera 📷 also kanna asked stop taking.

IMHO.
The best is not make assumption that the place TS was standing is a public area.
