Exclamation Poly Dropout Applying for DAE (SOS HELP)

Hi, guys, I'm a poly drop out (also in ITE final semester) and I want to enroll into polytechnic this year using my ITE result. I withdrawn from Poly after a month of studies because I can't cope.

I just applied for DAE and would really like to know:

1) How do I write a appeal letter? I see talks in the forum about appealing but they never really stated how and it seems like every school appeal method differs?

2) Any tips on interview? What do they ask? Is there some kind of answer they prefer?

3) Anybody manage to get into Poly Accounting course through DAE and as an ex-poly student?

THANKS!

I believe u should have apply JPAE Also too
Poly Accounting is hard to enter, you should apply DAE at NYP as i heard if there is slot the would let you in
You should also ask for recommend letter from your teacher

@rollanddie Yes, that's correct. Wanted to achieve better results than my O's (19 points which only allows me to choose from Design and Engineering courses) but I prefer not to take my O level again. And I thought with a specialised ITE certificate, it would at least be better than my 'O' level certificate.

@perfectlight Unfortunately, JPAE has closed. The admin office told me to apply through DAE.
I know it's hard but how hard ah? Is it the most difficult course to enter? And do you mean NYP accounting is easier to enter?
A bit embarrassed to ask siah. Cos all I did was study, also never do anything special. Feels sorry for the teacher if she have to squeeze things out. But it's definitely a good idea, will try to at least ask bah once I get over myself, haha.

Thanks for replying.

Hi,

Let me share some points here on JPAE and DAE applications for ex-Poly dropouts.

1) Ex-Poly drop outs applying thru JPAE will be void and invalid the moment you submit because JPAE is ONLY for those who has not been offered any Poly diploma courses before.

You can still apply via JPAE as ex-Poly as the system will not stop you from doing so but after the long wait, you will received either via their Poly portal or letter informing your application is not successful.

2) Ex-Poly students should only apply via DAE as it is the correct process.

But I must warn you before hand about applying to Poly as an ex-Poly drop outs as below;

a) Your educational merits has NO BEARING OR EFFECT on the course you apply for unless there is an opening place/vacancy available for the course you apply for, meaning;

i) If ALL JAE and JPAE applicants are considered and offered a place in that course, and there are still some place/vacancy available, THEN your application will be considered BASED ON MERIT to other similar cases of yours.

iI) After considering your application, Poly may invite you for an interview, the interview is a face to face talk about WHY you left Poly last time and WHY you decide to enter again.

Interviewer can ask more questions relating to the course you apply for and may subject you to a test, if needed (hear say on the test but I have never encounter any thru my 6 DAE applications in 7 years).

b) It is also quite difficult to enter or appeal to a "popular course" as most of it will already be full by the time Poly consider your application.

If you are somehow offered a chance to go for interview for that "popular" course, try to impress the interviewer (how sincere are you? What will you do that others may not for that course? How are you going to ensure and prove that you will not drop out again? Prepare to answer difficult questions of why you drop out of your last course? Do not give silly answers).

NYP is based on their intake, if their intake still got slots, DAE will get you in. as long provided they got slots for you

@Calvin.Lee Hi Calvin, nice to see you here. Read a lot about you and wanted to message you personally but I needed 10 posts to do that.
What I would like to ask you is:

1) Over the span of 7 years, how many times have you succeed in getting a course interview and course?

2) Were the courses you got accepted to considered as "popular"?

3) Did you write appeal letters?

thanks for taking time to explain!

@perfectlight So what you mean is if I apply for less popular NYP business courses (the ones more likely to have slot), I will have better chance in getting it compared to other poly?

Hi HakushuJun,

Sorry for the late late reply as I was not on HardwareZone forums these few weeks, my apologies.

To answer your questions below;

1) Over my 7 applications via JPAE or DAE, I am being offered on 3 times by 3 different Polytechnics (that is because I usually applied to the 5 Polys)

Of the three, only one required me to go for interview but did not get in because there is no available place left at that time. (During the interview, the Admission Director has already discuss with me how I should pay for my school fee if offered the course, that was how close I have been).

2) The term "popular" may be not be a correct word in my case because the courses I tried to apply for are usually very limited in places/seats/slots.

Example is the Temask Poly Diploma In Digital Forenics. Every year, there will only be around 50 slots/seats/places available for JAE/JPAE/DAE applications. Usually, all slots will be taken via JAE already before JPAE. DAE can say almost 0% no chance even I have a perfect score of GPA 4 with GOLD Certificate Of Merit. (The GPA is useless unless there is a available slots/seats/places after both JAE and JPAE applications.

The other course I very much like to get in is Diploma In Network System and Security (NSS) at Ngee Ann Poly.

Again, this course annual intake is around 60 slots/seats/places in total for JAE/JPAE/DAE.

The others I have applied are COP (Cut Of Point) of 17-26 such as Diploma In Computer Engineering, Infomatics Enginnering, etc.

Cont.

Conti from previous post.

The ones with COP of 20 or more are harder to get in some times because most of the places/seats/slots are offered to those who cannot get their choices first and at times, these group of people are huge in numbers depending how many did not do well in their O Levels or ITE.

Those COP of 10-19 are even harder as most top O Levels and ITE grads will want to get in. The availability of these courses really depends very much on luck at the time of your application and your merits over those other similar situation too.

3) Yes, I have written appeal letters during my first 3 times applications of my DAE and one under JPAE. After that, I find it really pointless to write in anymore as explain below.

Out of the 3 DAE appeals (I go to the Polys to appeal in person), only one replied with a course offer which I am not too interested in.

The JPAE appeal was because I finally realised (in April) my JPAE application was rejected immediately after submission (for ex-Poly) after I checked with MOE. MOE advise is very straight forward, apply thru DAE next time as JPAE are for those who has not been offered a Poly course before.

After the forth round (4 years) of DAE applications, the Polys inform me that with my merits, as long as I keep on applying every year, there will be a chance to get what I want.

But after the seventh unsuccessful time in DAE, I opt for a Part-Time diploma in Poly instead so I have option to work.

Hope it helps!
Calvin

Hi @Calvin,

Thanks for sharing. It really makes me lose confidence when a 4.0 GPA cannot secure a place he likes after years of applying.

On another note, may I hear the details on how you appeal in person?
And also are you still seeking readmission in Polytechnics?

Yes, that is true, what I said is applied to IF you are already ENROLLED to a Poly course and have STARTED (even for 1 day or half a day, means you paid the school fees and cannot refunded), even WITHDRAW from course after started is counted.

However, no HARM will be counted or done IF applicant withdraw from course before course started or appeal before started.
