Why cut off Calvin Cheng's reply? Mai cherry pick leh.

He did say that Public Interest was well defined in case law right? Did he provide the cases? If yes, then we should see if the public interest definition is applicable to the smrt fake news case lor.

How can ST not seeking basic fact-checking before publishing an article that holds no factual basis? ST have the resources to do so. ST should be taken to task as a state media for such failure.

Ben Leong...

Correctness has little persuading power. Stake and Dependence have strong one.

Quite right.

He noted that public agencies will sometimes need to release information faster than previously needed due to the proliferation of social media. "It may not always be possible in all cases to wait for a trial to commence or be concluded, a process which may take weeks or months, before releasing relevant facts to the public," he said.
In before PAP IBs reply

So you mean PAP government mouthpiece can publish unverified information and claim that it is fact?

Then how come when PM Lee sue private individuals or foreign media for defamation, the burden of proof lies on the defendant to fact check?

Ben Leong apparently didn't know that the minster can grant exemptions for POFMA ( clause 61 which reads The Minister may, by order in the Gazette, exempt any person or class of persons from any provision of this Act.) and the government and its agents are exempted from POFMA. Case closed. No need to argue.
