Open Electricity Market (OEM)

Open Electricity Market (OEM) is now for Jurong Residents Only.

Timeline of rollout:
Apr 2018: Jurong - Postal 60,61,62,63,64
From Nov 2018 : CCK-Yishun-Sembawang-Upper Bt Timah - Postal 58-78
From Jan 2019: Postal codes 53-57, 79-80, 82-83
From Mar 2019: Postal codes 34-52, 81
From May 2019: Postal codes 01-33

Please read the following Facts
#1 Switching to any of the retailer will not cause disruption or blackout. Electricity will still be supplied by SP Group. Only the billing and administration will be by your new retailer.

#2 Your monthly usages encompass (meter readings + Transmission Loss-Factor (TLF)). All OEM receives your meter usage from SP with an additional rate of 1.03493. If your meter reading shows 320kWh, (320*1.03493)=331.18kWh. Your retailer will bill you 331kWh and not 320kWh. It is up to the retailer choice whether to absorb the charges.

Transmission Loss Factor (TLF) rates is absorbed by Ohm, Geneco, Senoko, Tuas Power and Sembcorp. The rest of the retailers charge you based on loss-adjusted usage.

#3 Read the fine prints before signing up, some retailers pass third-party charges to you which is not included in the total discount. Some of the third-party charges are like Market Support Services Charges (MDSC) and the upcoming carbon tax. Please read very carefully before signing up, please read the fine prints!

#4 SP Group is progressively changing everyone old analogue meter to new AMI digital meter for free. The process will take more than a decade. Do look out for a letter from SP for your meter change, it can happen anytime before Year 2027. If you would like the AMI digital meter to be installed as soon as possible, you have to call SP Group to arrange for a change. However, it will cost $40 (billed into your bill). Retailers are not in-charged of installations of the meter.

#5 The SP current tariff are as below:
S$0.2413/kWh - 2018 Oct-Dec
S$0.2365/kWh - 2018 Jul-Sep
S$0.2215/kWh - 2018 Apr-Jun

I also considered sunseap too as it got 20% discount throughout the day. But I also found one cheaper option by Geneco.

During Off-peak (12am-6am) there is 50% discount which makes out $0.10/kwh. I think its a really good deal considering many people on their aircon throughout the night.During peak hours, (6am to 12am) you also get 10%. Around $0.19/kwh. I think overall it will considerably cheaper. They also provide AIM smart meter for free, other retailers do not offer it for free,

Still find this option might be good as compared to fixed percentage.

yeah. If that's the case, use all electricity-hungry appliances after 12 am, example, water heater (hot bathing), Air-con, hair dryer. Everything just do after 12. haha. Just now I did a call to them, indeed it's 50% off during off-peak. Some more free change meter, absorbed by them, we can check half-hour electricity consumption on the internet, so can control your usage.

Just now morning, i saw Best Electricity by Prime Group (the one with Prime taxis), giving out flyers. They offer fixed $0.16/kwh and 20% off or CASH REBATE based on your last 3 months usage

12am to 6am only 6 hours 50% discount

Peak period: 6am to 12 am (18 hours) 10% discount.

somemore majority of consumption is during peak period of 18 hours. sunseap is offering 20% across 24 hours so i think i will go with them first.

end up u calculate everything, actually 20% is more attractive spread across the hours.

20% is about 17 cents across 24 hours

yeah, also very headache. Hugely depends on your usage. What i think is, the fixed price might not be good, as SP Quarterly reviews its pricing, and who knows it might drop price and those on (%disount) is even cheaper?

Now there are 14 retailers offering cheaper electricity to consumers like us.

They all offer different plans, just did a check, lots of it. All of them are cheaper than what SP group is offering.

What's your view on it?
Just pick the cheapest and with the longest contract period.
