Political awareness in Singapore from 1940s to 2020

Do you guys realise that postwar Singapore was full of people, especially Chinese school teachers and students, and workers, who would agitate and demonstrate at the slightest stimulation?

Then through the years of prosperity, fattening the calves, the people dulled their political senses to the point of nothingness.

The masses in Singapore have actually gone through 2 extremes.. some may argue it's the Pioneer Gen who were the activists, and then in later years the Pioneer and Merdeka Gens were lulled into passivity. Of course there's a always a handful who keep up with the news and the analysis and therefore vote with 3 eyes open.

Any thoughts? Any interesting historical events to share?

Analogy using infantry doctrine:

Early years, we were like always 1/3 alert, every new development is treated as default hostile, everything is a zero sum game.

Then later, people became so fattened with wealth that they stopped even the guard duty and night patrols.

We need a balance point in the middle. People need actively search out news that are as neutral as possible, people need to train themselves to tell if something is propaganda and is designed to bypass the brain so as to affect the heart only.

Not true, there is always 30-40% of opposition supporters in Singapore. Then there are 60-70% are welly happy with what they have.

Democracy is alive and well and anyone can freely vote for opposition if they can convince you to do so.
