Survey respondents needed for M.Sc. Project in NUS: Public Awareness of Science

Hello EDMW forumers!

I am doing a survey for my Masters project in Science Communication. It is a joint Masters programme between the National University of Singapore and the Australian National University.

What is the title of this project?
A SURVEY OF PUBLICíS VIEWS, ATTITUDES AND LITERACY LEVEL TOWARDS EMERGING SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS IN SINGAPORE.

What is the purpose of this project?
In this research, we will be assessing the publicís knowledge, views and attitudes towards emerging science and technology, namely Machine Learning and Nanotechnology. Participants will complete a survey asking for their views on those two topics. We hope to obtain useful quantitative data on the awareness and literacy in those fields. We also hope to obtain data on their views and concerns and draw correlations (if any) between the two.

How long will the survey take to complete?
It is a simple survey that will take no more than 10 minutes to complete. This is an IRB approved project (cleared by the NUS ethics board). No personal information such as name, email or home address will be collected from you.

More information can be found in the link below.

Thank you so much for your participation!

Sorry guys, just a student's survey for my project thesis! No research grants or additional budget for remuneration

On the flipside! It's just a one-time survey. There will be no followup from you guys whatsoever. So no annoying calls, sms, or pesky ads streaming to your email inboxes, or whatsapp chat!

Thanks so much for the support nonetheless!

surprise that a master deg proj thesis dosnt use a proper sampling frame an choose to use a convenient sample that will highly skew the biasness of the results

I am absolutely surprised too. Unlees u are able to specifically target certain traits and argue its significance, survey research is not really worth reading most of the time.

And sample size is kinda crucial too. The more the better the confidence intervals.

I only know

Alll debate , discussion, forum , seminars
Feedback etc all ď useless ď

Now days everyone just want to protect themselves
Benefits etc

No one will want to be ď hero ď

All just waiting big incident come
Than suddenly all come out say
Why donít do this and that
Suddenly a lot suggestion feedback pour in
Because can score point in front etc

So there u go for modern society now

Thread starter I feel
You should go for fellow nus student
Do survey
Instead from the public
The public already sick of doings
Feedback to gov etc
Also no use

Perhaps this is what Gov want
Make people get sick of feedback
Naturally all quiet

Hi all,

Thanks for the suggestion and feedback. I have taken some of these factors into account. Given the limited resources I have, it is very difficult to get a true sampling that is representative of the Singapore population after taking into account age, ethnic groups, education etc. Nonetheless, I have gotten the numbers I needed through my previous efforts in reaching out to different segments of the population in Singapore in the past couple of months. I am reaching the tail end of my data collection phase and I just needed a little bit more responses.

I have been humbled by the experience of collecting survey results through various means, some of which, the experience was quite unpleasant. Others were uplifting as strangers were more than willing to go the extra mile to persuade their friends, families and colleagues to do the survey even when I did not ask them to.

Be assured that whatever shortcomings in the data that I have, considered and taken into account in advance. The main aim of the thesis is not to get the perfect result, but how to best make use of the data that you have and critically analyse them. I think for this exercise, it is the journey that counts, not the destination.

This is actually the first time I actually reached out to the public on an online forum. Again I did not solely rely on the internet to gather my survey data.

Again, to those who have taken the time to complete the survey, thank you so much. You have enabled me to get one step closer in completing my studies.

Jas
